Would you favor religion becoming extinct?

Well … there is no pleasing EVERYone.

But I endorse what the Amish did. Form their own community and self-regulate, rather than trying to force others to adopt their religious lifestyle choices.

I think we’re all just trying to get through the day best we can. If religion helps you do that and doesn’t influence you to harm others then believe whatever you want.

Interesting factoid.

On The Simpsons, only God the Father and Jesus are drawn with 5 fingers.

FWIW.

The Golden Rule seems like a great concept to live by and it predates Christianity.

I would not make any peaceful religion extinct. People have a right to their own thoughts. And they also have the right to tell you about it. Whether it be politics, sports, religion or anything else. You are not required to listen.

Most religions are about free choice. One is about conquest. The one who flies planes into buildings, puts gays in prison or simply executes them. Forces women to cover themselves with blankets, gives the death penalty to those who “insult” them, allows a 50 year old man to marry a 12 year old girl, and denies basic human dignity to women. Etc.

And the American democratic party honors this religion. Placing them in high esteem. Above all others. It’s bewildering.

Hmm…

All the major religions are violent by their nature. The only thing that keeps them in check is when a secular government is formed that neuters the violent tendencies of the religion. Islam today (intermixed with the government) is no different than christianity was 400 years when it controlled the government - force religion by oppression and violence. Thats why its so scary to me when bible ■■■■■■■■ get elected because they want to end secularism.

No ones going to end secularism. I have seen the new religion on the left ‘Politics’ and it frightens me more than than any evangelical, catholic, or Mormon. I would put that strain of leftism as much as threat to the U.S as Al-Qaeda at this point. They want to eliminate free speech, social rankings, thought police, everyone put on a pedestal based on their skin color or oppression meter.

I would rather deal with the occasional Mormon who knocks on my door or the occasional “Jesus Saves” bumper stick than the new religion of Politics.

Not true. Nobody is in favor of creating a theocracy. I would bet that every theocracy in existence today is Islamic.

Just last month South Carolina legislators tried to push a bill that would mandate schools teach biblical creationism as legitimate science. There will always be bible ■■■■■■■■ out there trying push a theocracy.

Why is that word filtered? Its not dirty or obscene. You know Bambi’s rabbit friend? That word is the one that gets keep filtered when I type bible thumper.

Edit. Apparently I can do it without the s on the end as it shows up there. But add the evil “s” and you get ■■■■■■■■.

There is only one Pure Religion and that is service to widows and orphans in their time of need and keeping oneself pure from the corruption of the world. Christianity is not a religion it is a relationship with God , Jesus did not sacrifice Himself so we could have religion He set us free so we could have a relationship through Him. What should become extinct, are the word games used by the world to alter the truth. take politics it is a word used to alter truth as it is an acronym for practice of lying intentionally to increase conflict socially our government is no place for politics. There is no need for the government to lie in order to secure our nation and work out commerce between the states. Politics gets us the things that we do not need a whole lot of grief.

non believers have so much spite and hate for religion, and people that believe in it.

They say that religious people are forcing their religion upon others,
and yet they try and force their beliefs upon believers of God.

How do atheists force their beliefs on christians? By demanding equal rights for gays to get married? Oh the horror of people who don’t live with you and you’ll likely never meet getting married. Even if you do know them it won’t affect you in any way unless you were secretly pining for one of them and now they are off the table.

The reason many of us hate religion is that we were either indoctrinated into religion without any choice in the matter, I was born into and raised in the baptist church til I escaped later in life. Then we see cafeteria christians selectively pick and choose isolated parts of the bible to justify the denial of rights to people they don’t approve of all while ignoring other parts of the bible. Its always hilarious with gay marriage especially since the lines against gays aren’t far from the abominations of shellfish lines.

I’d prefer if religious extremism became extinct - ie, things like bombing abortion clinics, government offices, people, unbelievers, killing children convicted of witchcraft, stoning people for crimes, etc were extinct. As well as the drive to enshrine religious doctrine in law. But religion itself? No. Some people need or enjoy religion for the community, personal growth, etc that it brings.

I don’t. But some people do.

The violence that is inherent in all religion is why everyone, religious people included, should embrace absolute secularism and separation of church and state. The only difference in violence between christianity and Islam is that secularism has largely neutered christianity from its violent past while Islam runs unchecked in the middle east leading to atrocities towards women, gays, and unbelievers. Just like used to happen to the same groups in christianity.

Try Koran thump-er and see what you get.

Well, Atheists usually put Religion down constantly, and then they sit there and say that they know for a fact that God isn’t real, and that their beliefs are right.

Especially, when non believers say that believers force their beliefs down non-believers throats, it sure is very hypocritical of the non-believers to say that.
They seem to be acting out and saying and doing exactly what they supposedly hate/say that the Religious people do.

I consider gay marriage, Religion, and Non-Believers separate things. Do they have some common things of morality in common? Yes, but please let us stick to the topic at hand?

I think that what most non-believers don’t realize, is what is good for America, is ultimately good for them. You see, if we let the Socialist Democrats take over this country, you won’t have a choice to chose what you want to believer spirituality wise or Religion wise. They will simply tell you what to believe, and you’ll follow it or else!

By having your own spirituality, or non beliefs, or beliefs in whatever you want to believe, but without trying to tear apart Religion within this country, you’re ultimately still able to have your beliefs and freedoms to say and do what you want within the laws of morality. But I doubt that most non-believers will listen to me on this issue.

On multiple occasions over the last few years, I’ve had christians knock on my door and ask if they could come in and discuss their beliefs with me, in an effort to convert me.

I’ve had people with “soap boxes” on busy streets, yell at me and tell me I’m going to hell if I don’t convert.

I’ve been handed pamphlets outside of rock shows, telling me I’m going to hell if I don’t stop listening to devil music, and convert.

I actually had someone in fast food joint tell me if I didn’t read his pamphlet and convert, I’d go to hell.

Decades ago, when I was delivering pizza, I got a “tip” that consisted of a pamphlet telling me why I should become a christian or go to hell.

Any Sunday, I can turn on my TV or radio and hear preachers telling me how wrong I am to be an atheist and if I don’t become a christian, I will be going to hell.

However, I’ve never experienced any of these things from atheists, but if we dare bring up or share our beliefs, we’re forcing them on christians.

Give me a ■■■■■■■ break.
