Will GOP should they gain back the House in November expunge #45's impeachment(s) off the record?

Check out this resolution proposed yesterday.

Although no way it passes while Dems are in control, does it have legitimacy if and when the Republicans take control of the House of Representatives next January?

In my humble opinion, this will happen. If for no other reason to raise the bar that most anything weak regarding impeachment inquiry (solely partisan motivated) will not stick “on the record” in the history books forever.

Why does it matter if it sticks in history books forever? Who cares? He is so dreamy.

Expungement in Congress do happen, albeit it’s very rare.

For example, in the Senate, our 7th POTUS, Andrew Jackson was censored in the Senate by the Whig Party who controlled the upper chamber at the time. However, when the Democrats regained control the record was expunged. Note at that time it was stricken from the Congressional record by being crossed out with lines handwritten in ink.

Here is an excerpt and article on the Jackson censor and accompanying expungement per history.com:

One of the key issues in the election of 1832, between Jackson, a Democrat, and Whig (Republican) Henry Clay, was the bank’s survival. Jackson easily won reelection, but Clay’s Whigs took control of the Senate. Jackson renewed his attack on the bank early in his second term, appointing a new treasury secretary whom he ordered to dismantle the bank and distribute all federal funds to individual state banks until a new federal bank could be organized. The Senate, with Clay at its helm, fought Jackson’s attempts to destroy the bank, passing a resolution demanding to see his cabinet’s papers regarding the veto of 1831. When Jackson refused to release the documents, Clay retaliated by introducing a resolution to censure the president.

Congress debated the proposed censure for 10 weeks. Jackson protested, saying that since the Constitution did not provide any guidance regarding censure of a president, the resolution to censure him was therefore unconstitutional. Congress ignored him, slapping him on March 28 with what amounted to an official public scolding for assuming authority and power not conferred by the Constitution.

The largely symbolic censure failed to stop Jackson from revamping the federal banking system. Democrats regained the majority in the Senate in 1837 and had Jackson’s censure expunged from the record. Still, Jackson did take the reprimand personally—a biographer later wrote that when Jackson retired from the presidency, the only regret he expressed was not being able to shoot Henry Clay.

Accuracy trumps all else. History over time attempts to capture the whole truth plain and simple.

Unimpeachment doesn’t make it more or less accurate. He was convicted. Regardless, who cares he is the bestest.

He was most certainly NOT convicted in the Senate.

He was impeached in the house. Again why does it matter? Regardless of impeachment his record stands for itself. Good bad middle. Why does it matter?

He is big strong leader he doesn’t need rehabilitation

Just grandstanding to get his name out. He knows this is a dead fish, nobody is going to get near it, so he is just getting his name out like I said.

An expungement should it ultimately transpire shows the House of Representatives abused their power while in control as a partisan exercise plain and simple. If not open for discussion the next time the opposing party takes back control, most any President going forward will surely be impeached just because the minority in the House can not stop it.

P.S. Notice the Clinton impeachment was not expunged as there was a plea deal with felonies backing up Bill’s wrong doing that made it legit.

No an expungement would still be an just an expungement. No matter how hard you try you can’t erase the impeachment vote. But again a big strong leader doesn’t need that. His record can stand on his own. Or can it?

Maybe impeach all the ringleaders of the two partisan impeachments for their venal abuses of power and those impeachment can stay on the record forever and give context to the faux Dem-impeachments.

I am sure. Still waiting.

Who is Hillary?

Rent free 30 years and counting.

Regardless what we collectively think the motivating factors of these impeachments being compelling or not, without any potential consequences/being held accountable should it be proven the exercise was more politically motivated, this type of behavior will surely be enabled going forward.

My sincere hope is that the resolutions passed and the impeachment is forever expunged from the Congressional record. This way each new House under now control by the opposing party does not automatically commencing an impeachment inquiry of every President just because they can.
