Why is Putin Popular in the West?

Who has suggested we send troops in to police anything?

Not one person in this thread has glorified china.

But Russia is still socially conservative. The war didn’t change that. It’s Putin. They are walking back their support of Putin not his policies not his alleged social conservatism but Putin. They are doing it out of convenience. But i agree with you in part the support for Putin is based on social conservatism. Though the biased side of me says that it’s also a bit about him being a strongman.

And send arms to Ukrainians to fight Putin?

Absolutely

Giving arms to Ukraine is not being a world policeman?

No question mark needed at the end of that sentence.

I could not disagree more.

I see it as helping a friend.

I wouldn’t call it “out of convenience” to stop supporting someone because they led the first recent major invasion of one European country of another European country. I would call it not supporting invasions. If you know a conservative who is also a serial killer, hopefully you will not support them anyway. That is out of principle, not convenience.
Nor would you, if you favor traditional western values, automatically support Russia over Ukraine.

Yes true. Poor choice of words.

You are projecting. You Russians like a “strongman”.

Conservative Americans have always liked a straight talker, a man or woman who “tells it like it is”.
Progs and their predecessors - politically mutant liberals - have always liked the smooth talkers, the weasel worders that say A but could mean B … because that is brilliant politics in their minds.

Straight talker. The sad part is you are not joking.

That’s a very sad view of your tribe.

Nothing in the history of conservative Americans including the religious right, the televangelist, the fear mongering speaks of your tribe liking straight talkers. Absolutely nothing.

And your support for the Russian gay propaganda law is proof that i am right.

As though the gulf between this, and, say, invading, occupying, and building governments in two countries simultaneously (one, preemptively) doesn’t exist. We give billions of dollars to Israel every year for their military, too. But it’s aid to Ukraine that’s over the line.

I’ve seen this multiple times here, and it seems like another variation on the old guy-in-a-well meme.

Except Trump. He lies about everything.

Ooooooh … your defense trots out the religious right and televangelists! Very cool. I hit a nerve.

Yes every post by a conservative is one that hits a nerve because a prog responded. That’s how debate works. I disagree with something so i respond. If my nerve wasn’t hit, why would i engage?

But yea my defense trots out your leaders. Of course it does. History didn’t start in 2017, no matter how much you guys wish it did.

Ronald Reagan wasn’t president in 2017…

Good Lord, it’s like playing cards with my sister’s kids.

Ronald Reagan was a smooth sun of a gun. Yes he also came off as a straight talker.

Dubya - same thing

His daddy - not really but was probably smarter than both of the above combined.

Anyway two of these people can’t be called a straight talker. Papa Bush would probably be the only one. And he got a lot of dem votes.
