Recent history. Additionally, he was never elected President.
he could have been if the electoral college had went his way.
he took almost the same states that trump took in 2016 the only difference being less population in those states in 1896.

What is your point exactly?
Iāll say that @Sammās assessment of Trumpās character and shtick is right. And (to the DIScredit of some of his supporters) thatās what attracts support. Our culture has turned crass. Our current president participates in that, rather than demonstrating a better level of dignity.
Iām not sure that counts as charisma though.

Gotta find something to disagree with.
Thatās the point.

that jenning could have been elected under the same circumstances as trump did in 2016.
jennings was more popular in 1896 than trump was when he was elected in 2016.

DougBH:
Obviously, he will still have his Presidential powers inherent in the constitution.
but with a democratic house, nothing will get done.

Judges will get done. The border will remain secure.

I still fail to see the point. How is something that happened 125 years ago even remotely relevant to this topic?

I believe it comes down to charm versus charisma. Reagan and Obama were charming and pleasant individuals. Obviously, Trump is anything but charming and pleasant. But all three were charismatic. They could attract crowds (Trump still has it) like no other politician of recent memory.

Now imagine if he werenāt such a jerk personally.

Thatās a toughie. If Trump wasnāt Trump, would he be President today? As abrasive as he is, I honestly believe that if he was mister nice guy he wouldnāt have taken that trip down the escalator.

Might be true. Thatās what I was talking about regarding our crass culture today in an earlier reply. Maybe thatās what it takes today. Maybe thatās why every issue and cause out there needs to come with an in-your-face delivery.
Trump certainly knows how to leverage that.
he has none, just TDS demanding he deny Trump anything positive

he who doesnt know history is doomed to repeat it.

I still donāt see how it is remotely relevant to the discussion about whether or not Trump is charismatic.
Samm:
Still not my idea of charisma. Reagan was charismatic ⦠Obama was (is) charismatic. Trump is a poorly spoken, narcissistic, boor whose main shtick is insulting and making up derogatory nick names for people who dare disagree with him.
Agree on Reagan and Obama. Disagree on Trump.
Cāmon man. The man canāt put together a coherent grammatically correct sentence.

IMO, if Trump was like Reagan instead of being the crass, falsehood spouting jerk that he is, his popularity would be over 60%, maybe over 70%. Some people apparently like that in a political leader, but most people would rather like the person they vote for.

There will never be another Trump.
Thank goodness!
Best President of my lifetime and probably since Lincoln.
Iāll miss him myself.
I will not go back to voting for establishment (swamp creatures) nominees who usually canāt win anyway.
Rubio i could possibly support as well as Vance.
If you consider a Berserker swinging a battle axe in a crowd a great President, then yes, heās the greatest.
Rubio has many positive attributes. Vance, not so much.
His policies are the best of my lifetime.
Period.
