What to do about Stupid Police?

Well…that is the only union relevant to the thread, but yes.

OH…so it’s just the police union that has too much power. Got it.

Mmkay, good info. As a NYC resident again, are you happy with your police protection?

No. They operate as a government unto themselves.

The NYPD is better armed and kitted than most New World militaries. Only thing they lack is air power.

If you gave the NYPD a small Air Force they’d be larger and far better funded than any Caribbean military.

In my simple view that seems antithetical to the ideals of a republic of free citizens.

Public unions in general are a little too big for their britches.

And I say that as a fellow Union supporter.

Basically private sector unions are near death and war has been fought against them. The public sector unions have amassed a massive amount of disproportionate power on the public dime.

With such a well armed and equipped NYPD police department why do LEOs there continue to get killed? Just curious.

Changing our expectations and refusing to accept it. Stop looking to government to solve every problem. Put government and civics back in school.

I’d agree with that, but the police union is in an entirely different league

As attempts to protect folks from their own Stupid increase via various social services two things happen. First the numbers of the nitwits increases over time. Second the burden of stupidity falls on those who are not nitwits to an ever increasing degree.

Wrong

Both Colorado and New Mexico passed new legislation to ban the use of qualified immunity in state courts. New Mexico allows all public officials to be sued under state law. Colorado and New York make individual officers personally liable, mandating they pay for at least part of civil rights violations.Feb 28, 2022

Yep i was wrong

But here’s the thing: the Supreme Court still recognizes qualified immunity. And we know they love them some qualified immunity.

When being a political hack, is good, and being a cop is bad, things are reversed.

“Only the unions I don’t like have too much power!”

These states need to fix this. And Texas needs to fix it for motorists.

I don’t have a negative opinion of police in general. But not much more than slightly positive.

That said, I don’t believe anyone at that scene should keep their job. Being union shouldn’t prevent that. I’m a union member and been in unions since I was 19. If I steal, I’m fired. That goes for most jobs union or not. What they did there was worse.

Not a single officer thought it was a bad idea to park on live tracks. Nor did any of them think it was a bad idea to put a suspect in that vehicle. Then make no attempt to remove the suspect from the vehicle.

Cops should also have to immediately and without being asked have to identify by name and badge number and articulate the reason for making contact.

By law, not policy.

The words “reasonable” and “reasonably” need to be stricken from every law.

Agents of the state are not “reasonable” when wearing the costume and gun.

The Constitution says “probable cause”.
