Very we’ll. That’s one for the state stepping in when local school librarians go too far. The only remaining difference is when a local librarian has gone too far.
A May 2023 analysis revealed that just eleven people were responsible for the majority of requested “book bans” in a data set of more than a thousand books “flagged” by parents.
If by local librarian, you mean public libraries, there should be no book bans. Sure, you can sequester books, apply age limits, require parental consent, that sort of thing. But outright bans are unacceptable for a government entity.
The discussions I have seen have not been about what is permitted in a public library but who decides what books are appropriate in public schools…most often elementary schools.
That “Raw Story” article starts out with “Right-wing activists have been working in recent years to remove what they say are objectionable books from local libraries – “ and then moves on to “ sixteen percent of all objections claimed that school books violated either state obscenity laws or legislation ”. It is not really clear which they are talking about when.
Nope…it is a handful of RW extremists with a very narrow view of reality, many of whom do not even have children in the schools. Another BS moral panic orchestrated and funded by RW Whack jobs.
One does not “teach” homosexulaity, anymore than one does not “teach” heterosexuality.
Acknowledging our society is made up of an abundance diverse individuals, is simply stating facts.
Although I understand many RW extremists have issues with facts that make them uncomfortable.

What’s to stop the govt from declaring a pandemic at anytime and locking people down?
Even worse was the way many people, govt and the press were abusive and violent toward those who did not want to wear masks or get the vaxx. They seemed to be on govt inspired jihad.
Then there’s the effect on the entire world… Way too much power was giving to govts…

Nope it is the parents in those school districts that help make the decisions. You just proved that the left are authoritarians. They are not just happy making the decisions for their own schools, towns, counties, states ect. They want to rule over everyone and to tell the whole country what to do. The Duram report just proved how crooked they are and what lengths they will go to get their way.
Well, you tell your children whatever you want. Buy them whatever book you want.
You don’t have the right to use schools as a way to force children to believe as you do.
The left have turned into authoritarians. They no longer believe to freedom. They have turned schools into their own little social experment and are now angry that parents are saying on more of your crap. It’s time to teach children how to read, write ect.

What is your definition of authoritarian? It seems the left wants to let children read about multiple viewpoints while the right wants to allow only one viewpoint. Isn’t your assignment of who is authoritarian backwards?

Asked and already answered. There is a broad. consensus that pornography should be age restricted.
In contrast, there is a vocal minority that is trying to eliminate all mention of Afro-American history, all mention of LBTQ+ people and all mention of non-traditional family structures. When, as is well documented, eleven citizens are behind a large percentage of book removals nationally, that is not how a society that requires the integration of multiple viewpoints, ethnicities and lifestyles functions effectively.
