What a odd notion. The officer released his dog then tried to command to stop the attack. Basic dog handling training is to call out the attack during training. I have caught dogs on the wrap many times. We abort attacks as part of k9 training and certification.

Btw, when he released the k9, it first started toward another officer. Tells me there may have been som certification problems.

An officer releases his dog to go after a suspect (or during training another handler wearing paddng designed to absorb the dogs bite).
As the dog is running toward the suspect the officer can call the dog off the attack before the dog bites.
Samm, the officer was not in control of his dog.
But getting bit by a police dog is better than getting shot.
I would have been happy if the dog bit another officer (instead of the suspect who was surrendering.)
That may have shown poor training to have the dog attack an officer.
It appears the dog got confused after being released by the handler.
Thanks for correcting lucylou. The drama and emotions are running high with the defund the police crowd. One would thinlk all police K9s are attacking almost innocent suspects.

Okay. It was hard to see the action well or to determine which cop was saying what, but I did not hear a recall command. It appeared to me that the handler did not attempt to call off the dog until after it had bitten the man. But I agree, the dog was not in his control. He couldn’t even get the dog off the man by force by himself.
And so, what does “catch dogs on a wrap” mean?
No the dog was not out of control.
The cop was out of control.
And unless the cop who said “don’t release the dog” was talking into a radio, he wasn’t loud enough.
And then there’s the clown fighting wirh his sling, that picture was posed.
Like somebody said, a clown show. One of two things happens:
- They get bored and want to use their toys
- They get terrified and somebody has to pay for that fear.
In these case I pick 2.
Watch the “handler” redirect the dog.
Cops don’t like it when citizens don’t submit. It scares them. Think about it. How does 1 million control 330 million?

The handler could have used voice command to call the dog out. Depending on department dog release policy, i do not believe he was appropriate to release his dog on someone who was complying to commands of the other agency officer. The handler ■■■■■■ up.

The dog initially started toward an officer and then tagged the suspect. I suspect the dog may have some training issues. I wish the dog tagged an officer instead of the complying suspect.
Well the handler will be flipping burgers now as he will not be hired as an officer. The city will have to go through a lawsuit or out of court settlement, ,the truck driver will get rich, and liberals will scream defund the police.
The truck driver started this fiasco and he will get a financial incentive.
You are never going to have perfect cops. Never. So, fewer laws will help. He’s dead because of a mud flap .
