The virus has a higher spread rate then the flu.
90% of American can’t take time off work if they are sick.

I wanted to shut down passenger flights from China to prevent it getting a foothold in the US irrespective of the economic consequences.
The economic consequences of a widespread Covid19 pandemic in the US dwarf the possible consequences of shutting down travel between the affected area and the US by several orders of magnitude.
Which wouldnt have stopped it from getting here.
Yes it is working or we’d already have an epidemic on our hands.
How was it going to get here if no infected carriers brought it to the US?
It was only ever intended to give a delay to prepare.
Unfortunately some of the measures I foresee will be devastating to the economy. Other countries farther along are feeling it, outright canceling of public events, people staying home, schools, etc…

Pretty much every country outside of African continent has been effected.
Lot’s of Americans get “sick time” off of work.
The CDC has the best medical forensic specialists in the country and right now this hasn’t spread far enough that I don’t have faith in their ability to track down the carriers and get people quarantined.
Again, even if we have a widespread outbreak 90% of those affected won’t even get seriously ill and only those over 65 and immune compromised are at serious risk.
Panic is certainly not warranted.
That certainly isn’t true. There are right now about 50-60 countries reporting cases and most of them are not reporting anything resembling a serious outbreak much less an epidemic or pandemic.
It’s already here and just starting…you are declaring yourself the winner before the race starts
