The right wins in Italy

It’s not just 1920s. It’s 1922.

It’s just an interesting coincidence is all.

Is it not a historical moment in time?

Agreed. There can be no argument that the party has fascism as part of its evolution but that is not the sum of all their parts.

As a coalition there power will be muted and Meloni is going to be frustrated with this. Like you said they would have to be in complete control to see how they would truly govern and that is not going to happen.

Time magazine . . .

Meloni, whose party traces its origins to the postwar, neo-fascist Italian Social Movement . . .

Yeah sounds real right wing to me (roll eyes)

Social doesn’t mean socialist. Lol. The Italian social movement were self proclaimed ultra right wing neo fascists

Both left-wing and right-wing populists have done this.

They locked away Assange when he claimed the DNC hack was an inside job. That’s a very fascist thing to do.

The right thinks the left is wrong, But the left feels the right is evil…

Like Sweden, Italy wants to curtail immigration. Their economy is in the tank and social dependency is crippling and stifling growth.
I’m sure there are other issues and like a lot of Europe, this winter will be colder because of energy shortages.

yeah, that’s very true. You never see people on the right refer to demonrats as evil.

I am not saying it’s true in this particular case but conceptually it’s plausible. A woman PM is not necessarily going to be friendly towards women’s rights.

That’s because it is a key characteristic of populism. Defining even.

Are they not feeling enriched?

It is ironic but not impossible. But its all a fuss about nothing.

First of all it could take weeks to get a functioning coalition government up and running. Secondly they are not going to get a two thirds majority in the Italian Parliament so they will have to rely on their coalition partners.

As I said Italians are fickle when it comes to politics and as history has shown they soon turn on whoever they vote in because reforms and change are never quick enough. Granted this is a downside of a government working via coalition.

If the Italian economy is not a priority or Italians feel nothing is changing dont be surprised to see this gusto for Brothers of Italy start to evaporate.

Arresting law breakers is fascist? Who knew?

Maybe not.

If, as many have done, folks have elevated baby killing to very the core attribute of “women’s rights” then expect opposition to “women’s right”.
