Symptoms and Prevention of Coronavirus

Lots of threads talking about the political aspect of the coronavirus, but I haven’t seen any advice on what the symptoms are, how not to get it, etc.

I haven’t read every post in every thread, so it might be there, but I thought I’d share the following.

(Forwarded from an aunt who knows someone who knows someone…so take it for what it’s worth)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS
Last evening dining out with friends, one of their uncles, who’s graduated with a master’s degree and who worked in Shenzhen Hospital (Guangdong Province, China) sent him the following notes on Coronavirus for guidance:

  1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
  2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
  3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees (NOT SURE IF THIS IS F or C). It hates the Sun.
  4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
  5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
  6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
  7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
  8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
  9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
  10. Can’t emphasise enough - drink plenty of water!
    THE SYMPTOMS
  11. It will first infect the throat, so you’ll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
  12. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
  13. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
  14. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you’re drowning. It’s imperative you then seek immediate attention.
SPREAD THE WORD - PLEASE SHARE.

Celsius. Damn Europeans screwing around with the thermostat!

Good info. Haven’t seen it broken down like this.

That is interesting, that is 78-80 degrees.

Summer needs to get here quick!

Hard to see how Iran is being hit so hard right now. Unless, they’re experiencing cool temps there as well. Just looked it up, they’re hitting a high of 82 in Sistan, Iran wherever that is.

Oh, and don’t you want a little global warming right about now?

 you shush.

Duh, I could have looked up Tehran. 45-65 the next few weeks.

Bacterial soap has no additional effect on viruses. Any soap will do. For that matter, plain soap works just as well for bacterial contamination too.

Or fire up the sauna. You could even use it to sanitize your clothing and bedding.

this is ■■■■■■■■■

leave the hysteria spreading up to cnn

Exactly what about my OP is “hysteria spreading”?

Are you saying the advice given is useless? How do you know? Please provide a link to a correct list of symptoms.

Below is a link to the CDC page on Symptoms of the Coronavirus. It’s pretty sparse. Useless, in fact.

Thank you Alex. GWH give this guy a community service award. Make a new one if needed

This confuses me since that’s colder than body temperature.

Why the snark?

Don’t you think it’s a good idea for Americans to know what the symptoms of coronavirus are?

Is there any government site that provides them? If not, shouldn’t there be?

Isn’t that just common sense?

cute how you post un-referenced crap, then bust out the ol’ “prove it’s wrong” defense

if what you posted were true this virus causes pneumonia in its normal course

hysteria spreading

so i ran out and bought up all the toilet paper in the area and switched my party to democrat

Not snark.you did good. I asked the mod, GWH, to give you an award. Don’t be defensive. If i wanted to say an insult or be snarky, I would have clearly done that. Man I really liked your ■■■■■■■ post.

Come on @thinkingman, leave the brother alone. He posted some good tips. ■■■■ i am washing my hands several times a day and wiping my face, head and ears. Every time I hear someone cough and don’t cover, I glare at them and touch my nose with my middle finger. This keeps up, i will hand the idiots a ■■■■■■■ face mask. There are inconsiderate mother ■■■■■■■ out there who might carelessly spread the virus.

Don’t be confused study virus epidemiology. We should really impose travel restrictions and get this ■■■■ under control

Samm alcohol is good with viruses. Alcohol and 75 degrees is what the Chinese are recommending.

They (devote Shia) are licking religious statues and not covering when they cough. Besides that, they may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer. The Iranian leadership rejected the olive branch we tried to extend to them. I really feel bad for the innocent Iranians who are living in that hole.

Yes. After washing my hands with soap and hot water, a shot of bourbon takes the edge off any residual worry I may have about viruses.
