Now that really sounds like a projection, ala Michael Jackson. Skin color is an inherited genetic trait. It isn’t a failure or an accomplishment, it doesn’t deserve feelings of embarrassment, or pride. An emotionally mature adult understands this, teaches his children this and ignores bigots who believe otherwise.

This is where I disagree. Majority of white people aren’t trying to protect their privilege. And they definitely aren’t trying to protect their privilege through institutional racism. Most just simply don’t care. It’s unconscious.

Now there is a growing number of Trump supporters who I do believe are reacting to rhetoric around them being “replaced” by “others”. I do believe their reaction is to protect their place in society

They equate privilege with “strength”. And the last thing the left wants to see is a person strong enough to stand on their own without gubmint freebies and special rights that they- the left - offers in exchange for votes.

That is actually a pretty good question. African Americans held as slaves did number in the millions at slavery’s height, but 10s of millions of various European nations were viewed as minorities by native born citizens of European decent. African Americans did outnumber Hispanic Americans for a period after the civil war. I suspect largest minority is a moving target.
