New Pew poll: Most Americans have unfavorable view of Israel

Jewish history predates Arab history on that land by what ? a millennia or so ?

What business is it of the US to take sides in land disputes involving people on the other side of the world?

The Welsh are descended from ancient Britons who were on the land long before the Anglo-Saxons arrived. Do they have a land claim to all of England?

Like previously pointed out, US had a de facto arms embargo against Israel during virtually all of expansionism that you seemingly so strenuously object to.

The expansionism was entirely due to misguided aggression by the Arab side. Sucking at warfare does not make one’s cause righteous, does it ?

Israel was originally a British project. Britain and France carved up the Middle East into protectorates and spheres of influence after WW1 and joined Israel in 1956 invasion of Egypt. The US and the Soviet Union in a rare display of unity forced an end to the invasion.

Yes, the US became Israel’s major arms supplier only after Johnson became president. The 1967 Israeli attack USS Liberty using unmarked aircraft off of the coast of Sinai makes sense as a false-flag pretext for US intervention. Something similar happened in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964.

When you wrestle with pigs you get dirty. None of this would have happened had Hamas not attacked, killed and captured Israeli citizens. Their plight is entirely of their doing.

US became a major supplier post-1967 after Israel had just demonstrated its military dominance in the region. You know, after Israel was at the height of its expansionism, having the Sinai peninsula in its possession, which was later returned to Egypt in exchange for … peace.

I bet a few woefully uninformed spin doctors thought otherwise

:man_facepalming:

Or the 1967 war was only possible because Johnson had already given Israel access to US arms supplies and green-lighted the war.

Eisenhower had refused to send arms to Israel, and he forced the Israelis and their British and French allies to withdraw from Sinai in 1956.

Kennedy ended the embargo in 1962 and allowed the sale of air-defense weapons. Johnson greatly expanded arms sales to Israel before the '67 war.

That’s because the Soviets started slinging tons of weapons at the Arabs. It was the Cold War man.

Limited arm sales before 1967.

No troops, weapons or intelligence sharing during 1967 war.

Interestingly enough, it was only in the aftermath of Israel’s decisive victory in 1967 when the arms sales to Israel really shot up starting with the sale of Phantom fighter jets in 1968.

Strategically, Israel displaying its dominance in the region in capturing what it did during 1967 is what catapulted United States military support for Israel, not the other way around.

Also can’t forget that the Soviet Union started dousing the Arabs with T-55s and MiG-21s, too at that time.

That led a complete change in US policy.

I disagree.

There wasn’t time. The war only lasted six days.

Yeah the Arabs did real bad in 67. They did better in 73. So much so that the IDF was genuinely impressed by how much they had improved.

so war crimes are okay if the other guy is bad.

Allan

No. But not everything is a war crime.

Again, I said nothing of the sort.

Correct.

then what are you saying about the war crimes committed by the IDF?

some clarity is needed.

Allan

That is the official narrative that has been told in the US and Israel. The reality is far different based on Israeli war plans from March 1948:

Destruction of villages (setting fire to, blowing up, and planting mines in the debris), especially those population centers which are difficult to control continuously.

Mounting search and control operations according to the following guidelines: encirclement of the village and conducting a search inside it. In the event of resistance, the armed force must be destroyed and the population must be expelled outside the borders of the state.

The villages which are emptied in the manner described above must be included in the fixed defensive system and must be fortified as necessary.

In the absence of resistance, garrison troops will enter the village and take up positions in it or in locations which enable complete tactical control. The officer in command of the unit will confiscate all weapons, wireless devices, and motor vehicles in the village. In addition, he will detain all politically suspect individuals. After consultation with the [Jewish] political authorities, bodies will be appointed consisting of people from the village to administer the internal affairs of the village. In every region, a [Jewish] person will be appointed to be responsible for arranging the political and administrative affairs of all [Arab] villages and population centers which are occupied within that region.
Plan Dalet for War of Independence (March 1948)

The left dominated MSM ignores Hamas atrocities altogether. They are rarely, if ever mentioned. They have lost all credibility.
