Of course you want to stop the leaking of false information to the press. It can be very damaging for lies to be issued from a supposedly reliable inside source.

And nobody’s pushing that harder than Republicans, who are doing all they can to discredit the media because it shows how wrong they are on just about everything. When you have the president battering the media, there’s no question that the public will respond negatively. But as Alexander Hamiliton said, the masses are asses. That’s especially true today.

If it’s a fact, why does Trump attack credible news stories and news reporters? If they were really crap, he wouldn’t need to, would he?

Credible? Most of the media stories are based on “anonymous” sources if they aren’t made up all together.
That would be annoying to say the least.
“Anonymous” sources doesn’t mean the stories are made up. There are reasons the sources can’t be revealed. More importantly, though, was the information wrong? Just saying they’re anonymous sources doesn’t make them wrong. The accuracy of the information is the important thing. And for the overwhelming majority of them, they’ve held up.
