As much as I think Trump has an iron grip on the party, because Gaetz is so blatantly unfit for the role, we might see enough Republican senators vote against Gaetz a) because they do not believe he is fit for the role and b) its an easy opportunity for senators to flex their muscles.

Some people I think would be fit are Ted Cruz and Trey Gowdy. Since Cruz got re-elected and we need him in the Senate, I think Gowdy would be a good fit.

One hypothesis I have heard is that Gaetz may have been put out there as a nomination Trump could lose so it would look like he was compromising and had given something up…thus helping his other nominations.
Of course there is no real evidence for this but I remember from my days involved in contract negotiations, a contractor would demand something ridiculous so it would look like he was giving something up when he really never expected to get it anyway.

That didn’t end the minute trump was not a viable cabinet. That ended with a lengthy report and several successful prosecutions.

None of which had anything to do with colluding with Russia to interfere in our elections.
