Gaetz may have agreed to go along with this even if he thought there was a good chance he wouldn’t be approved. He might think it looks better to resign because you were nominated for AG than it looks to resign because an incriminating report is about to be issued.

That’s kind of where I’m at with it, too, but that kind of begs a question or two:
- Is the report so bad that Gaetz knew he couldn’t survive it politically?
- Is it a principled move for Trump to nominate him (even believing it would be rejected) knowing what Gaetz did?

And he has to know it’s entirely possible he won’t get confirmed.
I’ll go ahead and predict he will decline the nomination (or Trump will withdraw it) at some point and he can go off to do something else without the Ethics Committee report ever being released.

You would think that after all of this time, DEMs would have learned their lesson about writing Trump off as some buffoon who has no clue.
I don’t know what Trump is thinking with this appointment, but I don’t believe for one minute that he is an idiot who doesn’t know Gaetz is damaged goods.

I don’t think he’s clueless, but I don’t think he cares about some claim that Gaetz denies since he himself is accused of being a serial sexual harasser and denies/thinks he was treated unfairly in the Eugene Carroll case. Gaetz is a fighter and claims he did nothing wrong.
