Just Keeps getting worse and worse for Puerto Rico .

It would never work.

Attitudes in this thread show why.

Was she born in Puerto Rico?

The current situation isn’t great and is only getting worse. The cultural divide between regions is growing and there is a lot of resentment.

But I agree that the experiment would most likely fail. We would end up in the EU’s situation at some point.

I am aware of that I am talking about the whole colonialism argument, which often gets trotted out. Let me know when the Turks start beating themselves up over the Armenian genocide or Ottoman Empire. Or when Japan or China start beating themselves up. It’s not going to happen it’s a liberal western thing. It’s pretty sad imho.

The current situation is resentment that has been elements in the political sphere fomenting it for power.

On the right you have the characterization of any marginal distribution into a social safety net as full blown Socialism. Abortion as akin to murder and just talking about addressing gun violence as digging up George Washington’s corpse and kicking him in the balls.

On the left there is indeed a “woke” faction that just needs to calm the ■■■■ down and make their argument without coming off as a bunch of fascist ■■■■■■■■■ There is the painting of almost everything that the GOP does as racist… they should just stick with individuals in the GOP who tend to say racist ■■■■■ and they need to understand that there are certain parts of the country that are not going to buy their brand so they need to figure out what sells to those voters and cater to them.

Everybody who has a vested interest in politics lies about what the other side thinks and feels and they distort the truth about what they think and they feel.

Welcome to America.

So everybody should just calm the ■■■■ down. Stop making every single stupid fight an all or nothing gambit and work toward bettering the country as a whole. Turn off the radio and read some books.

This talk of breaking up the country because there is no way we can all get along is complete ■■■■■■■■■ We are the wealthiest nation to ever exist on the planet and every single one of our problems is self made.

No. But she needs to go back there.

That would be good for us but not so hot for them.

We had that.

No it isn’t. Being wealthy with self made problems does not change the fact that we are incompatible.

Here is the link to what was posted earlier.

It outlines exactly how the United States assisted in Puerto Rico’s fall.

Puerto Rico brings a lot to the table.

Puerto Rico was made a territory in 1917 by the US for one reason - send its men overseas so fewer “real” Americans would have to go.

Puerto Ricans have served in every war since and many have given their lives for their country - the USA.

Nine Puerto Ricans won the Medal of Honor, posthumously.

We owe the inhabitants of that island some gratitude, not a casual, “well, we can’t use them any more so let’s let 'em starve to death” dismissal.

I don’t know man look at the EU it’s fracturing before our eyes, the center right and left have been thoroughly pounced each election in Europe, and populists rule the day. Seems to be going on throughout the world as a pushback from Globalization.

Alexander Dugin is the ground zero for a lot of it.

You could be right some of it could be because of his influence, but I think it can be traced back many years with the boiling point being the 2015 migration into Europe. I know it’s not a particular popular thought on the left but I think migration, outsourcing because of globalization carries a lot more weight than they want to admit.

Globalization is just Capitalism in action.

It is merely the division of labor on a global scale and is a good thing.

For some. For others it (combined with automation) have been disastrous.

There are always winners and losers in any economic system, capitalism included.

Yes it is unabridged hyper capitalism which traditionally the left used to be against. I grew up hearing the Democratic Party was the party of the working man, not “Big Boss Man #6” in China overseeing a factory of basically what amounts to slave labor in horrible working conditions.

Really?

Third Way Neoliberalism has been the dominant economic theory in the Democratic Party since the early 90’s

Which means they have it. Furthermore, Congress cannot unilaterally take it away. The fact is as I stated, Puerto Rico has more autonomy than any of the 50 states.
