You can’t demonstrate that being separated has created any trauma or permanent harm to any of these kids.

These are tough kids raised in tough conditions that have just finished a long, dangerous, and grueling journey to even get here and once they are in detention they are living better than any of them ever has before.

I remember when Conservatives use to pretend that a stable family was one the most important things for a child when growing up. Chalk that up as one more value Trump exposed for the sham it was

If you can find evidence of conservatives saying that even a temporary separation was going to cause permanent harm to the children provide it.

A stable, two parent natural family is still the ideal but then when parents commit crimes we don’t send their kids with them to jail or prison either.

Joanne, I respect your concern for the children. I really do.

What I don’t understand is you trying to use that information to attack President Obama and use it as some sort of comparison to President Trump and the coverage HIS policy has been receiving.

The limited information at your link seems to clearly indicate there is an alleged problem with personnel in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection that has been going on for years.

Now I’m guessing that you noticed the report was concerning the treatment of unaccompanied children.

A silver lining of all of this wall to wall coverage that has been brought to bear on this due to the change in policy by the Trump admin is that these CBP employees should all be reviewed for any abuses that they have engaged in.

But make no mistake, if Trump and his admin had not begun to exert this additional outrage of the mass separation of children from their parents, there would be no wall to wall coverage now and any and all disturbed people in the CPB would still be happily abusing just the unaccompanied children and none of us would know that there was more to be upset about.

To be clear, President Obama did not order his administration to go out of their way to inflict unnecessary trauma on children and their families when they came here together the way that President Trump did.

And that is the only reason this piece of human garbage in the White House has received all of this coverage. He brought it on himself and you should not forget that.

And yes, stories are starting to come out about alleged abuses that have been going on for a long time. This is hardly the end of this, and I’m sure a lot more is going to come out in the days and weeks ahead.

Guys like Franklin Graham, Jerry Falwell Jr and others who have been vocal Trump supporters came out very early strongly opposing the family separations. I’ve been really disappointed in Graham, but he did the right thing here.

Yeah the stories of abuse are going to make the situation far worse when they inevitably bubble up.

Unfortunately these facilities the kids are being held in are exactly the kind of place that abusers will flock to.

Temporary? There doesn’t appear to be a plan to re-unite the separated children with their parents yet. DHS is claiming that’s not their responsibility, they’re trying to palm the problem off to HHS.

They also have no plans to expand the size of these facilities despite their already being significantly over-capacity.

Even if you agreed with the policy, the implementation has been a mess.

Our immigration rules are a mess all by themselves. Just look at how many who are now illegals are the result of overstayed visas. I can’t exactly blame someone who came here on a visa for a job then got discarded later by the very people who brought them here in the first place. Seems to happen all the time though.
