2 1/2 years of Mueller investigation ending in the “testimony” of “Well, if it’s in the report, then it’s correct.” has Americans scratching their heads wondering why. Why the expense? Why the show? Why no impeachment if damning as dems claim? Democrats will come away looking ineffective and then desperate if they press at a later date. Their window of opportunity is closing, if it hasn’t already, and this will bear out next November.

He can do it just like other things he has done that the court later reversed.

The courts would likely follow the principle stated by James Madison in the Federalist Papers. “No man,” Madison wrote, “is allowed to be a judge in his own cause, because his interest would certainly bias his judgment, and, not improbably, corrupt his integrity.”

What makes you think he would stop doing that as a Private citizen? He was holding rallies the month after he was sworn in, for no other reason than to soak in the adulation.

He could do this as he pleases and folks will show. He could hand pick candidates for office and stump for them. He could start a Trump Network and folks would tune in. And all of that he could charge money for. He could either destroy or prop up the candidacy of any GOP member and be a kingmaker all the while enjoying his life without consequence.

Now I know he wouldn’t do it, but it would make sense too.

Interesting you bring up my greatest fear about this dangerous sociopath. If does lose the election, he will be the most dangerous ex president ever. He will rail and rail and rail about how the process was rigged and his rallies will be even uglier than they have been. He will run again in 2024 and may win because the economy is due for a correction anyway and could be the end of the next president. No, I’m afraid the threat won’t end until he is dead or too ill to speak.

How many rallies will he have if he has to pay for them himself?

If Trump continues to ignore subpoenas, could the Dems open an Impeachment inquiry simply to acquire the testimonies and documents required in order to ascertain whether a vote for impeachment is even viable? I know that during an inquiry Trump would not have the ability to do as he is doing now.

Impeachment is the trial, not whether they vote in favor of it, from what I recall.

Clinton was impeached, for instance. But they did not vote in favor of it.

That’s a tough one. There is a legal precedent that you cannot be judge at your own trial. DOJ opinions on self pardons have always been that it is unconstitutional. Should he attempt to do so, it would certainly be taken to the courts and mostly likely be overturned.

Constitution spells out the only restrictio on presidential pardon’s:

the President shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment

Not sure how a court could find anything else “unconstitutional” as it list only a single exemption.
