More on conditions.
Looks to be the calm before the second half.
Thatâs horrible everything destroyed.
For those reading philosophy while taking shelter.

So long Cape Canaveral.
As long as the nearest edge of the eyewall passes at least 30 miles east of Cape Canaveral, shouldnât be too much of a problem, would only get Category 1 winds at that distance, maybe gusts to Category 2.
Hopefully so. Reportedly the eye has dipped to the southwest some now.
Watch it ride the coast line right up Florida.
Itâs a beautiful storm.
Hurricane Warning is now in effect from Jupiter Inlet to the Brevard/Volusia County line.
Hurricane Watch is in effect from the Brevard/Volusia County line to the mouth of the St. Maryâs River, which also happens to be the Florida/Georgia State line and also from Jupiter Inlet south to Deerfield Beach.
They are evacuating the many low lying islands on the Georgia coast and it is notable that much of coastal Georgia is marshy and just barely above sea level, so a storm surge could push well inland.
This thingâs a â â â â â â â monster. Sat basically at 0 mph for the last 6 hours bombarding the Bahamas. I believe itâll turn eventually but geez I look forward to seeing that pivot finally begin. My immediate family lives in the Ft Piece area. It sucks having to trust models and pressure system predictionsâŚ
You can listen to emergency responders as it gets closer
Click on the state (say florida), then click a yellow county. Then scroll down and you can find all the online feeds of law enforcement and fire/rescue. Also the ham radio operators.
You may hear stuff that is distrubing (not bad words, but boots on the ground describe to their dispatches what they are seeing). So be advised of that.
1800Z model runs, excellent consistency.
Intensity models show slow weakening from here on out, it will likely remain a Category 4 until it arrives at the latitude of Daytona Beach.
Likely will get areas of Category 1 force winds in isolated areas on the coast and most of the coast will experience Category 1 force wind gusts.
Hurricane Warning has been extended north to the Flagler/Volusia County line and the Hurricane Watch now goes to the mouth of the Altamaha River (McIntosh/Glynn County line, Georgia). Both will likely be farther extended on the 5:00 pm advisory.
the question is how big of a storm surge will the storm push. even if the coast only gets cat 1 winds they could still get a surge of a level far beyond that
The storm surge will be major, but limited to relatively near the coast, due to the Coquina Ridge that runs along much of the Florida East coast that raises many areas to 20 to 40 feet above sea level.
It is in Georgia and the Carolinas that the storm surge will have more impact.
5:00 pm advisory. The forecast track remains pretty much the same.
The Hurricane Warning has been extended north to Ponte Vedra Beach, which is at the Duval/St. Johnâs County line, at the south edge of Jacksonville.
The Hurricane Watch has been extended north to the mouth of the South Santee River in South Carolina, which is at the Charleston/Georgetown County line.
Crazy how much the east coast dodged this⌠granted its not over and it could still hit coast
I think the GFS model has it trending west and going right up the coast. Hoping that doesnât come to pass.
