What’s required by law? The start/stop engine? My wife’s car does not have one. A friend of mine just bought a new 60k challenger that does not have it installed. What are you referring to that is required by law?
Ok. I misunderstood you when you said required by law. Mainly because you followed it up with, nothing you can do about it. Of course there is something you can do about it. Don’t buy a car that has one.
Whatever happened with the system GM had on several V8 engines that shut off four cylinders at idle and city traffic rpms? As I understand it, people who had that feature (Cadillac was one) said it worked well an seamlessly.
The Cadillac version was 8/6/4 in the 80s and didn’t work out well. In 2007 GM introduced 8/4 on some of their V8s. It works well but when the four cylinders are shut down, oil consumption increases and by @ 120,000 miles…oil consumption was vast enough it became a problem in some vehicles…but not all. The solution is a programming device that shuts that feature off if this starts to happen?
Since I can’t read the article, don’t these bans take place sometime in the distant future? It’s easy to have a seemingly unrealistic goal if you give yourself enough time.
My issue with EVs isn’t even the cost, it’s the convenience. Because I’ve had cars that got only 200-250 miles per tank. But I can stop at any gas station and fill up in 5 minutes. It’s annoying enough to have to stop and fill up, but to wait 30 minutes to an hour, and sometimes longer to charge up, that’s a deal breaker for me.
If you can charge up at your house, that’s fine. But I never want to be in a situation where I have to charge on the road. That’s even if charging stations were everywhere like gas stations. Which they are not. It almost seems like going to an EV is devolving.
It causes excessive oil consumption and premature valve train failure.
I sold a Camshaft and lifters for a 2022 Escalade just the other day. On an engine that had less than 15,000 miles on it. Camshaft was already junk and it was fixing to drop three AFM lifters. Technically his warranty covered a replacement but like most things it’s on back order. So he went aftermarket.
The system is utter garbage and I would not buy any AFM equipped GM V8.
The true fix is a new aftermarket camshaft and traditional hydraulic LS lifters. Solves the problem entirely and you get a nice cam lope as a side prize.
Here’s another thought I had. This is just my opinion.
What is the motivating factor for buying an EV? When they first came out, what did everyone think? The first thing most people thought was they didn’t have to pay for gasoline. If you’re going to pay the same or more to charge, what is the motivation to buy an EV? There aren’t enough eco freaks to support it, just like there aren’t enough trannies to support Bud Light.
If the government had to get involved, they could have provided support for hybrids or chargeable hybrids instead of EVs. At least that would have cut down significantly on gas usage and provided something that would be useful. And EVs that nobody buys don’t cut down on gas usage at all.
