Electric Cars are coming- no need to drill in Alaska

Even my minivan outperforms an EV. So does my wife’s Jeep.

So electric vehicles don’t work for everyone.

…and I’ll wager, that in the next 2 years you’ll need to replace your battery and the expense will far exceed the car’s value and it becomes junk. Now…when it happens, look in the mirror and attempt to mentally erase the mirage of the “V” on your forehead because you’ve just exacerbated the global warming cause you were duped into fighting.

Correct.

No, I won’t.

There are plenty of Teslas from 2008 (the roadster) on its same battery.

My teslas are fairly new now… my old one I drove almost 200000miles. Original battery and brakes. And it’s still going because I sold it to my parents .

The original batteries are doing better than expected.

I don’t consider 150 miles on a full charge all that impressive.

They do seem to last longer in a desert climate.

In 2008 there were only 2450 Tesla Roadsters produced at a cost of 98,000 each.

I will admit…Tesla is a unique story and I’ve been impressed but the jury is still out. Every other manufacturer to date…what I said is spot on.

Now in the rare event the desert sees rain…

So you stuck your parents with the battery replacement cost. Did they understand that when you so magnanimously sold them the car?

Of course they did. It came with free unlimited supercharging and they don’t commute as much as I did. They can get another 100k out of it. They only paid 8k.

They got a great deal. Anything else you want to hate on?

Hate? What did I say that took you there?

What do you mean by “free unlimited supercharging”?

All of the early Tesla Model S’s came with the ability to supercharge (teslas public charging standard) for free. So it would cost me nothing to charge if I did it at one of those locations.

Right now I think charging stations would be the biggest issue. If you have one at home and you don’t take long trips, no big deal. If you can’t have one where you live, it would be ridiculous to buy an EV.

The new gasoline cars have an annoying feature. That stupid start/stop feature. My wife got lucky with that 2021 Toyota Avalon. Or 2020, I forget. But it doesn’t have it installed. I would never buy a car with that.

It’s easy enough to defeat. I’ve done it enough times to know.

Ok, but you’re still paying for it. You can hit the button that turns it off, but why should you have to? It’s like getting into your car every day and the radio is on volume 10. You can easily turn it down when you get in. But it’s annoying. I will never pay for that feature.

I was taught and remain of the opinion that it is better mechanically to let the system run than to stop and start more than needed.

The default should be off. Better yet make it an option for people who want to save 4.3 ounces of gas a year and are happy to pay for an extra repair instead.

Ever since I’ve went back to tolls in 2019, I have had several cars not start again in my lane. They had to be pushed out, then towed. These cars in a line have to start and stop every time they move. You can hear them all starting and stopping every time they move a few feet.

That is so crazy.

Yeah, no thanks. Not all new ideas are good ones.

It’s required by law. Nothing you can do about that.

But you can hit the button every time, just like you remember to put on a seat belt and release the parking brake every time before you go.
