Electric Cars are coming- no need to drill in Alaska

What exactly are hybrids? Do you still have to charge them? If that’s the case, that’s the worst of both worlds.

Hybrids recharge by running their engines and use the electric motor for when it is best.

UNLESS driven stupidly as electric first, gas later… as some appear to be sold as.

As far as battery powered goes, I find the lawn tools to be amazing. I’m all in. Right up until you get to ride on mowers and beyond, like cars. They’re not there yet. That’s where I draw the line. The gas powered is way more convenient and better overall. Once you get past a battery powered chainsaw, you’re using an inferior product if it’s battery powered.

If the government has to get involved, is it a good idea?

Hybrids have the ability to run on either gas or electric. Usually, when there is no strain on the drivetrain…electric kicks in and maintains the speed. This requires a smaller amount of energy when applied in this manner. Then when the driver takes their foot off of the throttle, the car goes into “regenerative breaking” mode. The car recharges the battery as the inertia of the vehicle slows down. It’s a very efficient system.

…only during times of war.

Government gets involved in oil/gas as well.

Sounds like Ford needs to build better EVs or less of them until demand kicks up. Tesla does not have this problem.

My thoughts when I bought my first Tesla

  • electric way cheaper than gas
  • ability to refuel while I sleep at 1/5th the cost of gas
  • cheaper car to maintain (although I admit that my first Tesla was very expensive, so most people couldn’t take advantage)
  • I like fast cars… teslas are very very fast :slightly_smiling_face:

I never once considered buying an EV to save the planet.

Absolutely. Mach-E could have been the world’s easiest layup–all they needed to do was put the electric powertrain in a regular-looking mustang.

Instead, they made a doughy crossover. Nobody is going to buy that, which has nothing to do with the fact that it’s an EV.

Ford’s other EVs are transit vans and the lightning that isn’t in stock anywhere. Seems like they’re not even trying. Where is the Focus EV?

This was my exact thought when I hear about the Mach e… then saw it.

Sometimes car manufacturers overthink design. Chevy, for example, won’t make the same mistake with its corvette E-ray. It looks and drives like a corvette.

When is war a good idea?

We don’t have enough lithium. Ask the president of Honda…

Trump is right. EV’s will end out auto industry in America and it will go to China. I mean that’s what the Chinese are paying our politicians to do, right?

Or 25 and very well trained?

Some 25 year olds are more malleable than others.

And better trained.

I agree, although if your lawn mowing and snow removal needs are modest, the battery powered walk-behind mowers and snowblowers are a viable option too. I am about >this close< to buying a 60-volt Dewalt snowblower to replace my extension cord Toro.

Yep. The Mustang is one of the most successful design lineages (style wise) to ever come out of Detroit. Why they made the Mach E look like every other piece of crap car on the road is mystifying. Have they all forgotten the Edsel at Ford Corporate headquarters?

Some 25-yr-olds (and older) still think like 18-yr-olds.
