They left for their own safety.
One of the protestors said “There are so many people pushing their way to get up here. I have seen people get hurt and I don’t want to see you get hurt”
There was 100% a threat to those officers.
They were actively trying to break down the barrier. They were beating helmets and poles trying to break in.
It wasn’t peaceful.

What gets me sometimes is this.
A black law enforcement officer tasked with protecting the Vice President, members of Congress, and their respective staffs while they perform the Constitutionally required actions of counting the votes from the democratic election while standing behind a barricade listening to them scream and watching a riot unfold and the rioters breaking through the barricade pummeling it with sticks, helmets, and shields pulls his firearm, provides a verbal warning, then is forced to shoot a rioter breaching the barricade as the mob presents a clear and present danger to the officer, the VP, the Congress and their staffs.
That’s is an unjustified shooting and call it murder.
But a white neighborhood watch guy chases a black kid returning home from the store at night armed with a bag of Skittles and kills the youth.
Well that’s a justified shooting.
