Coronavirus Thread Political II

Save the hospital system. Flatten the curve. Protect the vulnerable.

Preventable?

You can’t protect the vulnerable if everyone gets exposed.

Obviously you do not. When one is preventable as you say and you still have almost as many deaths because of it. Which one is worse?

Yes, we can.

You said previously that “you are going to be exposed”. Did you not mean everyone is going to be exposed? Cause if not, that means social distancing and quarantines work. And if they work, then they can work for anyone, and not just the vulnerable.

No no no.

Literally the single week of April 12 (4/12 - 4/19), we had about the same number of confirmed covid deaths as we did confirmed flu deaths in all of 2017-2018. Remember, when people usually talk about flu deaths, they are talking about the extrapolated estimate. Right now with COVID deaths, we are basically dealing with lab confirmed positives.

The entire 2017-2018 flu season had about 15,600 confirmed flu deaths (later estimates extrapolated it to ~61,000).

The single 7-day period of 4/12-4/19 had about 15,200 confirmed covid deaths.

Crazy.

Operator dependant mitigations. You are going to be exposed. Just like you are exposed to the flu viruses.

When you are, your outcomes are limited to 6.

  1. You don’t get the disease.
  2. You get it but you are asymptomatic
  3. You get it and are symptomatic
  4. Symptomatic - Recover
  5. Symptomatic - Recover with medical intervention
  6. Symptomatic - Die

My bad.

I understand what you are saying now.

Fired up! Ready to go!

Not %100 preventable obviously…

Math.

60% to reach herd immunity (it’s what I’ve heard anyway)

Virus kills .1% (looking like this more each day)

320,000,000 Americans.

Less than 200,000 dead.

What percentage?

  1. Recover but with life-long health issues. I’m reading a lot about that.

If you have life long health-issues, did you recover?

I dunno what Taber’s would say but I’ll check.

What percentage of NYC do you think has been infected?

Not if you lived in Taiwan.

My best read (Merriam Webster) is that recovery is an active state. So I presume it’s possible to be recovering but be totally messed up. Some of my 12 Stepper friends are walking (?) testimony to this.

Do you live in Taiwan?
