In strategic shift, doctors in America's two largest cities are told to skip some coronavirus testing

“At this point in the pandemic, demand for unnecessary testing is contributing to the rapidly diminishing supply of PPE and leading to a decreasing supply of swabs and viral transport media used to collect diagnostic specimens for Covid-19 testing,” a statement read. “Testing may play a more significant role after the pandemic has peaked.”

Ah, supplies. I was thinking tests. Yeah, that’s what we get for putting our supply chain hook in China.

Actually what this crisis ACTUALLY shows is that we don’t have enough supplies worldwide to handle a pandemic.

It’s not that China was hoarding masks and supplies from us out of malice.

They needed them to fight the pandemic in their own country.

The world isn’t equipped to handle a pandemic where all countries are hit at or about the same time.

This same thing would have happened had the supplies been here or there. There would have been shortages.

There wouldn’t have been shortages in the US.

You don’t have to test everyone. Just everyone with symptoms. Then those people who test positive are quarantined.

Pretty straightforward.

The is all manageable and possible when the numbers are low. But back then we were guffawing about how silly this all was and promising people 15 was going to zero and ignoring intelligence briefings.

Man, this thing incubated in China for two to three months with their government misreporting the data to avoid panic. His intelligence services were warning him.

Annonymous people with the intelligence agency have claimed that they gave information in January that the virus was worse in Wuhan (can we say that) than was being represented by China.
They were not medical experts, offered no plans of actions or treatments.

In fact, until January 22 China had been claiming that this did not spread from human to human.
WHO was on the ground there and not declaring this an world health emergency.
Congress was busy with an impeachment that was known was going to fail and not looking at this at all.

Trump was ahead of the curve and putting up with charges of xenophobia and worse to try to stop this from spreading to the US.

Stop looking at the currently known curve of the disease and what we are doing now and pretending that everybody (who was silent then) knew exactly what needed to be done then.

yes and yes.

ny never had enough tests. for a long while they didn’t have any. now they are worried about exposing hc workers, and running out of tests and supplies and are say “if someone calls with symptoms, don’t test them - tell them to stay home”.

Which isn’t as effective IMO as telling people they are positive…
