And? Germany declared war on the United States, England was already at war with Germany, therefore it was unequivocally in our best interests to “save” England.
How do you ignore the fact that they murdered 10 million+ people in gas chambers and ovens? No problems trading with them after that?
Is that all you think the US accomplished in WWII? “Half of Germany”?
Regardless of your opinion, at the time the US government certainly acted in what it perceived to be its best interests, not out of the goodness of its heart.
We all know Nazi Germany was bad, we all know the holocaust was horrendous. If Britain didn’t declare war in Germany they would very likely would still control quiet a lot of their empire. At the time almost half of the world used Britain currency, Britain and France didn’t gain anything by declaring war on Germany. They didn’t stop Poland being taken over and didn’t stop the holocaust, what did happen was they got knocked down from a first rate power to a second rate closing in on a third rate power as well as loosing their empire, blood, and treasure.
America on the other hand came out pretty well after WW2. Hitler was horrible and Stalin was just as bad. We sided with one devil for another. Think of the deaths that came since the Soviet Union occupied most of Europe after WW2 prompting communism to spread across the globe. At least 20 million people died in the Soviet Union under Stalin over 50 million died in China because of Communism, and other examples like Cambodia and Cuba. Look at the China we have today all this was made possible by a Soviet victory in WW2.
The whole time the Soviets held onto Eastern Europe as well as half of Germany they were a foe to the west.
