People like him because he isn’t a Democrat. I’m a registered Democrat, just because if you aren’t one in Colorado you don’t get to vote in the primary. Being a Democrat isn’t an accomplishment.
It doesn’t matter whether or not you want “free stuff.” His policies are the better policies. It is wrong for people to depend on health insurance policies for their healthcare. It is wrong for students to be over their heads in debt for going to college. It is wrong to deprive the incarcerated the right to vote.
Personally, I think for a president to be effective they need to have a calm demeanor and be more or less centrist in ideology. Bernie to me is the liberal mirror image of Trump. He comes across as brash with extreme views to appease a small portion of his base. The country works best when united and I don’t see Bernie doing that any better than Trump. Biden has a chance.
Extreme in the sense of a centrist and especially from the view of those on the other side of the aisle.
-Top tax bracket up to 90%
-Federal minimum wage to $15
-Expansion of welfare programs
-Approves of Obama era Iran relations. Less sanctions, more diplomacy.
-Two state Israel solution. Critical at times of Israel and has been called out by the ADL.
-Free public universities.
-Single payer universal healthcare
-Very pro-choice
-12 mandate 12 weeks maternity/paternity leave
-Ban assault rifles, universal background checks
-Strong LGBT advocate
-Against death penalty
-Favors DACA, new citizenship pathways
-Marijuana legalization
I’m not saying any of these are unique or that other candidates have similar stances. It is his political views in total.
