Anyone who lives in the outer buroughs knows that they are woefully underserved by yellow cabs. Generally it was gypsy cab companies that would fill that market and the majority of them now operate under both Uber and Lyft becuase they are the major players.
Her district lies in the eastern edge of the Bronx and the middle of Queens.
Sure, her office was 1 block from the train station, but being there is no direct line between those points, it would probably take you at least 1-1/2 hours (maybe more) to travel by subway between the major centers of the district, as opposed to a 20 minute drive across the Throgs Neck Bridge.
Wouldnāt it be worth that extra time to help prevent the world from ending in 12 years?
