Why I Want Bernie to be the Democrat Nominee

Well Ceasar it’s looking like your going to get the matchup you wanted, Sanders and Trump.

Really. He’s a democratic socialist pushing social democratic policies.

Under capitalism its likely the person deciding the doctors salary would be a non-elected business person or a board of people elected by the shareholders. Under socialism it could be a voted for office holder in the government or voted on by the employees of the organization the doctor works at.

Uh-huh…

Yep. It’s obvious if you listen to him and look at his proposed policies.

Yeah, good luck with that!

Yeah, the gut who went to the COMMUNIST Soviet Union for his honeymoon, when it was in the middle of full on communist oppression & as always in a socialist state shortages & long lines for everything, including the most essential things, like food…Oh, & Bernie praised them for how wonderful those long lines for food was…uncanny…

His trip was in 1988. “Full on communist oppression” was during the era of Stalin, the leaders going forward put an end to those tactics.
Praising breadlines was dumb. I kinda of see what he’s saying, but it wasn’t well thought out.
But visiting the USSR doesn’t make one a communist. Plenty of people have visited the USSR and there was a out of cultural back and forth happening in the late 80s.

Say what?

The Khrushchev Thaw.

That should really be either a cocktail or a dance.

It’s what Ceasar said though, the timing and the fact it was their honeymoon. When the day comes that I get married to my fiancé it would probably be a hard sale to take her to Russia even in today’s environment, which is much better than the communist days. Who honeymoons in Russia when they were the Soviet Union… Not a personal trip which is cool but their honeymoon, wasn’t Cancun or maybe Paris open at the time?

I find it odd I’ll leave it that.

True. Too bad most people, especially moderates, will not distinguish among “Democratic Socialist”, “Socialist”, and “Communist”.

If Bernie is nominated, Democrats will lose their chance at the White House and the Senate. And probably lose the House. You think Trump and McConnell are off the leash now?

Enough moderates gave “outsider” Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt in 2016. Won’t happen again, unless the Democrats nominate someone who scares them. Like Bernie.

And the joker could probably win the presidency at this point.

Seriously? Nobody went to the Soviet Union for their honeymoon but Bernie. Yes they were in full on oppression, gulags and all. As for his bread lines praise, I don’t see how you can possibly even " kinda of see what he’s saying" if you don’t kinda agree with it! Pffffffffft!

Actually I went to Russia for my honeymoon. And Belarus. My wife has family there. That was ten years ago though, I wouldn’t want to go now.

But regardless, visiting the Soviet Union doesn’t make you a communist and its not that strange if you are a socialist sincein practice the USSR was socialist as they never managed to pull off communism.

I don’t think Sanders could win the general. Socialism is still too dirty a word in some necks of the woods.

The gulags formally ended in 1960. Over time after that other labor camps slowly closed as well. In 1988 there was much less suppression going vs when Stalin was in charge.

He’s saying that bread lines are evidence that everyone is getting bread. Also apparently he was talking about Nicaragua, not the USSR… unless he did it twice. I think everyone getting bread is a good thing. I’d prefer they didn’t have to stand in long lines to get it.

Ehh Soviet repression ebbed and flowed with time. And Soviet leaders are graded on a scale.

Lenin: Second most psychopathic Soviet leader after Stalin.

Stalin: The worst of the worst. No Soviet leader comes close to Stalin on the misery and oppression scale.

Khrushchev: Better than average, but repression still occurred. It just wasn’t in the same galaxy as Stalin.

Brezhnev: Worse than Khrushchev or Gorbachev, but doesn’t hold a candle to Lenin and certainly not Stalin.

Gorbachev: The most humane and empathic of the Soviet leaders by a country mile. The only one I’d place a “good” rating to.

Interesting, my fiancé is from the Ukraine will be visiting her family in a few months, the pressure to tie the knot has been coming on strong from her family as we have been dating/engaged coming on four years. I think that’s why they wanted me to learn Russian so they can urge me on.

Horrible popularity pagent and grossly inefficient.
