Yep, they are taught how to apply just like it’s a rite of passage. I’m old enough to remember having to apply for a loan and actually having finances scrutinized.
It’s the fault of their parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and other liars propping up stupid notions like “any degree is a good degree” and “find your happiness and it will pay for itself”. The ones who don’t want to actually work hard end up picking easy degrees that are unemployable and then are saddled with debt for decades. By that time their professors don’t give a ■■■■ about them because they already got their money. I wonder if they ever figure out who lied to them.
If people aren’t getting jobs with their social science degrees, then they aren’t marketing themselves correctly.
They aren’t useless, and many companies do look for these kinds of degrees. The thing with these degrees, is that the jobs you would get with them are not specialized.
So a psychology/sociologist, may not get a job in their specific field, but the will get one doing behavioural analysis of customers at a large company.
It’s all about marketing and leveraging what specific skills you gained from the degree.
Yeah, marrying a guy who turned out to be a deadbeat dad was definitely a bad decision, but it happens a lot.
“Most generous country in the world.”
A person is working, and hard. It doesn’t matter whether the skill is deemed “low” by some, work is worth a respectable, dignified wage, and many people who are working hard are not getting that.
Weren’t you guys the ones who said I should pay taxes to educate your kids in public schools to make society better for everyone including me? Are not most employers requiring degrees for jobs that pay halfway decent (enough to actually live off of, if you prefer) even if those jobs don’t require skills that necessitate acquiring a degree in the first place? It wasn’t the government making those requirements either. Seems like at least some of your ire is misplaced.
I don’t know why there is a big discussion about unskilled labor. If there is a worker shortage and you have to pay through the nose for unskilled labor, that’s just how it is.
I’ve mentioned this several times before, but a NJ shore town, Point Pleasant, had to pay 24 an hour to get people to pick up garbage in parking lots over the summer.
The car wash right by my house is paying 15 an hour to help dry cars.
If you have a shortage that’s what happens. Whether or not anyone thinks people deserve what they get paid is irrelevant. Do you want the job done or not?
Yeah, those are good points, and I agree. It’s just that I don’t think most understand how to market themselves like that. Over the years I’ve known so many who graduated with degrees in Psychology, Political Science, English, History, etc that ended up either going back to school for a STEM degree/trade or just gave up and worked entry-level jobs in retail.
You have heard of the Paris agreement haven’t you? You know, where TJ agreed to rejoin and give billions of tax payer dollars to other countries under the pretense of preventing climate change? I’m sure our billions will go to tremendously good use by those other countries because TJ is so beloved by all the world leaders that it would never occur to them to laugh at and mock TJ and squander our money on other things that will do absolutely nothing to make a difference in the climate! Where have you been that you haven’t heard of TJs generosity to other countries with American tax dollars?
I literally have NEVER advocated tax money being used to pay for public schools. However, since tax dollars are used for education, I would advocate for school choice. Public schools are a big part of the problem.
But Libs just love that their exalted leaders exempt themselves from the rules they force on others and live like royalty on the backs of the peasants. The more blatant the leaders hypocrisy, the more beloved they become.
