What to do about Stupid Police?

I can understand that. Too many cops acting on implied guilt escalate a situation. Shoot first, ask questions later, maybe never. They think they are brute force detectives. I imagine they view it as their calling when citizens demand they prevent a crime before it begins.

How should we solve the citizen side of the problem?

By safeguarding citizens rights to defend themselves in protecting life and property.

Agrred but off point. How do we convince citzens to stop viewing cops as a force of crime prevention and as law enforcement? Safeguarding the 2nd is the tool, how to convince people to rely on using it?

They canā€™t prevent crime, but we can make sure once convicted criminals will be locked up.

educationā€¦

I think George Carlin would have joked about The Stupid Police by now.

(Police tasked with dealing with stupid people)

So letā€™s add into the civics curriculum the true nature of police is to enforce laws, not be there to prevent crime. Enroll cops into higher education that also instills the notion that they arenā€™t crime sniffing hounds. Stop escalating situations they suspect a crime took place based on gut feelings. No matter what, it isnt a single source problem

Stupid used to hurt more

Right so either respect them or elseā€¦

No jurisdiction has removed immunity or completely defunded. Those jurisdictions that disbanded did it in order to restructure.

Violence targeting police is a problem. Utter respect isnā€™t a solution

Appeal to authority works poorly for an operationally defiant populace, especially authority with such a poor track record of wielding it

Damn.

She plans to sue? This should be a no brainer. The officer leading the charge is too stupid to know when heā€™s even had enough to eatā€¦much less than to park his car on a train track. WHAT a dumb person.

This is a great case for giving officers a pay raise. Get the best, not the least expensive. Sometimes saving the wrong penny, will cost you a dollarā€¦as in this case.

Pay isnā€™t going to matter without structural change.

I donā€™t disagree that there is a combination of changes that need to be made butā€¦having the best prospect, sure helps.

Neither is utter disrespect, as in selecting one incident and writing about Stupid Police.
Many of the incidents that have set off riots and protests occurred in major cities run overwhelmingly by Democrats. Why arenā€™t they finding systemic changes to correct these problems? Sporadic vilifications arenā€™t the solution. That is counterproductive, unless your goal is to keep the best people out of the police departments.

I think this is a poor case to make that argument. You canā€™t guarantee a better workforce by atttacting more candidates without rewarding the bad apples. I think the fact that there is a separate tier of justice for holding them accountable that gives them less reason to think through their actions than their paycheck. We need a highet standard of ethics and make cops not tax payers more viable.

Agreed, but letā€™s make pay increse a part of expected education increase

Countless incidents

Yesā€¦you can. This is how it works in the real world. If you pay more, youā€™ll have more applicants to choose from. Now it depends on who is doing the judging/hiring but what I said, is spot on.

Letā€™s take a long look at qualified immunity
