What should the US do about Mexico's BRICS application?

“some”, as in a handful.

Since I can’t post links, the SPLC that never covers left wing extremism (it just seems like that because it’s comparatively rare) has an extensive article of the tiny group out of Chicago that espouses this belief.

If it weren’t for certain quarters amplifying this, nobody would never hear of it and still nobody does.

Nah, we would just like a United States (“America” already includes North, Central and South) that strives to meet it’s ideals but certainly updated from the Founders vision of a United States built on the policy preferences of the political elite of the late 1700’s.

The Consitution is failing. A 4 page document that spells almost nothing out and dumps it all on the courts with wildly uneven applications across the country isn’t cutting any longer. Take the good points, ditch the anachronisms and make it a more appropriate governing document for a diverse country of 330 million people.

This much is true

Generally it’s extremist sites that like to pretend Aztlan is a thing, and they’re not from the left.

sCaRy Aztlan takeover! It’s gibberish that gets repeated like it’s a thing.

Same must be said for America “punching down” every country that has less money than America.

Sigh and for once I thought a sensible discussion was going to be had.

No, Republicans punching down is part of their identify politics. Never punch up, always down on the weirdos and the freaks and the ones who look different.

Mexico has a large over-bearing interventionist government.
As in all such cases, Mexico is poor.

The liberal response is to bad0mouth America and try to make us more like Mexico.
Like little rebellious teenagers who never grew up.

That sounds like an analysis from a teenager.

WE could stop the neo-colonialism like bombing LIbya during Obama etc…

We need Trump back to negotiate. Biden’s hacks are a disaster…

Or as Winston Churchill (not a teenager) put it . . .

You cool with the “neo-colonialism” of bombing Yemen during Trump etc…?

Now do Kipling.

They never had all of that. The Comanches stopped them. They’re full of it.

Okay

Kipling on government

"They spend all their blessed time in governing it, and you can’t lift a spade, nor chip a rock, nor look for oil, nor anything like that without all the Government saying — ‘Leave it alone and let us govern.’ "

or

Evelyn Waugh on Kipling

“He believed civilization to be something laboriously achieved which was only precariously defended. He wanted to see the defenses fully manned and he hated the liberals because he thought them gullible and feeble

So what do you propose the US does to ensure Mexico does not have closer economic ties with China? Crippling economic sanctions? Installing a new government that will do as the US wants? Military threats?

None of those options have any upside for the US.

Mexico is not a friend to the US and we should not pretend that it is. Just go back to the policy of Trump…they stop serving as a conduit for illegals from all over the world or we tariff them out of economic existence.

Yes. We should not meddle in Mexicos affairs.

Could just ask them.

Absolutely agree, nothing wrong with diplomatic efforts.

What has that got to do with this discussion? We are talking about what the US should do.
