What If Jesus Was Political?

Bingo. And that’s only the third book in. There’s a lot more than follows.

And it continually COMMANDS that we give-it does not ask. There are consequences for not giving.

Scripture also provides for how to enslave humans. Why don’t you look to scripture for guidance in that area as well?

How does the verse reference below have anything to do with a wrong attitude towards wealth? It mentions no attitude at all and just simply condemns the accumulation of wealth.

Would jesus belong to the nra?

This notion that Jesus was against wealth is deliberate ignorance. Jesus was not against wealth, he is against idolatry. Many of the beloved patriarchs of the Bible were fantastically wealthy. Abraham and Job for example. And let’s not forget King David and his even wealthier son Solomon, who was probably the richest man who ever lived.

Jesus is not opposed to money by itself, he is opposed to ANYTHING that people put above a saving relationship with him. It could be a career, object, hobby etc. Scripture says " The LOVE of money is the root of all evil", not “MONEY is the root of all evil.” Huge difference in meaning here. Can any of you guys grasp this??

If you’d scroll up and follow the discussion, you’d see we were discussing whether Jesus might align more closely with socialism v capitalism.

The accrual of wealth for wealth’s sake, instead of mostly using it to help others/those in need, was exactly the discussion.

And the Bible repeatedly COMMANDS those with wealth to use it to help those less fortunate, condemns usury (capitalism), continually reinforces that we show our faith to God by helping those less fortunate, that those who amass wealth and sit on it will not enter into the kingdom of heaven, etc.

You’re not arguing anything that hasn’t been the very points we’ve been discussing. Context is really important.

Capitalism and usury are not one and the same. Further, the Bible talks to individuals. It does not command the government to take from the population. People don’t need the government to come between the individual and those in need.

Evidently, you’ve forgotten your very own posts. You said “The Bible INCESSANTLY condemns wealth.” NO IT DOES NOT!!!
As a matter of fact, the Bible says it is God that gives people the ability to make wealth.

I agree, we ARE commanded to be charitable but that is not a blanket command to give to every single thing that a government, group or individual demands that we give our money for. If you believe God would ever condone giving money, even if the government says we must, for doing evil “charity” like abortion, YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!!

You might actually open up a Bible and look at II Thessalonians 3. There it also makes clear that people who do not work, should not eat. Kinda refutes the liberal notion that everyone, EVEN THOSE WHO REFUSE TO WORK, are entitled to a basic income. BS!!

How about you liberals actually get to know Christ before you presume to speak for him! But then, you wouldn’t be able to stay liberal very long. It’s almost like liberalism is an idol…

Nothing in here about any attitude towards wealth, just wealth itself. It doesn’t say a greedy man, or a man that worships wealth. It just simply says a rich man.

oh look another post paden with personal shots in the religious form.

How Christ like!

We’re done, too.

And the Bible doesn’t say government cannot be the instrument of giving.

Render unto Caesar…

The Bible (and Jesus) do not address government. I further doubt people are debating whether the foundation and all aspects of government should be based on the Bible. Socialism–as well as all other forms of government–are about as non-Biblical as one can get.

Funny thing about Jesus… He seems to know what people are thinking and what’s in their hearts without ever speaking directly about the matter…:thinking::thinking:

How DOES he do that??? It’s almost like he’s GOD or something.

It is kind of hypocritical for the people that shriek incessantly about the absolute, total, 100% separation of church and state are the ones who believe the government should enforce what they wrongly believe the Bible commands?!?!

All I am saying is the Bible is mute in whether govt can be used to uplift the downtrodden.

It is?

I support programs not because of the Bible but because I think it is the right thing to do. That it happens to align with biblical teachings is coincidence. But I do use the Bible to wonder why ardent followers don’t seem to follow it very well.

You didn’t address the verses I quoted.

Just another example of TDS.

Nah… just a reflection of what our government has done.
