I hear ya. Not a true solo, but how can you say this isn’t a kick ass guitar riff?
I just always put them more in the pop category. Not denying they were legendary. Plus it’s so old they didn’t have access to a lot of great gear the later guys had in terms of tone.
They did everything from country to blues to pop to heavy metal. I can name at least one song of each.

Oh and also, my knowledge of rock falls off a cliff after 1980 because I switched to primarily a blues, indie and country fan. While still listening to the older rock I grew up on some times.
