WAR in Ukraine, Putin approves initiation of special military operation (Part 3)

The Russian navy is nothing but a poorly trained and poorly maintained shadow of its glory days as the Soviet Navy.

Torpedoes, not missiles, are used to engage submarines. And 5 subs, what a massive fleet. And just how many NATO attack submarines (not counting US SSN hunter killers), many of them very, very quiet diesel electric, excellent for the operations in the Baltic, the North Sea and the Black Sea, would these 5 subs face?.

You have the greatest collection of Pro-Russian websites.

I’m pretty sure at this point that Bill was the former minister of propaganda for the Soviet Union before it self deleted back in 1991. And he’s still relying on those old contacts.

The Russian Navy is so good that they’ve sunk more of their own ships than they have any enemy ships. Seriously, it’s a fact. The number one killer of Soviet and Russian Federation ships is the Russian Navy itself.

The US Naval Institute is a pro-Russian website . . .

Those Rooskies are everywhere.

Yes, those Russians are still peasants in ox carts, but somehow they have submarines with titanium hulls that the US can’t begin to replicate.

Torpedoes and missiles are not mutually exclusive at least for the Russian Navy. Here is a report from 2022:

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, the Russian Navy is now operating its new Otvet anti-submarine missile system. This next-generation ship-launched anti-submarine weapon, which functions with a torpedo-like ability to fly parallel to the surface, submerge, and use sonar to track and destroy submarines, is creating concern about whether the U.S. Navy’s undersea advantage can be sustained.

Oh good. They can sink their own ships with it. They’re good at that.

they lost 25% of the black sea fleet to a country without a navy

they couldn’t build a missile that did that with magic fairy dust.

A “right”?

I would say all nations have a right to exist. Especially when they are willing to fight for it as Ukraine has done repeatedly throughout its history.

I don’t think there is a “right” to exist.

I agree if they can fight and hold it, they can exist.

Did the CSA have a “right to exist”?

It sure had the right to try. Had they not started the war, they may have stuck around.

Not a “right” and the war was fought to stop them.

Did you even read that article before you posted it. You are talking about two 30-35 year old submarines, built with 1990’s tech, left over from the final day’s of the Soviet Union. Two old, worn out boats, no where near a match for a Seawolf, or new Virginia class SSN hunter-killer.

The Russians are just that far ahead of us. Ya know the Soviet Union was 30 years ahead of the west comrade.

Among nation-states, one exists only as long as you can defend your sovereignty from being taken from you by other nation-states. That ability to defend themselves against other states is what makes them exist. Once it is proven that they can’t anymore, they cease to exist as an independent nation-state.
