US sued for $60 million after infant in detention later died

How many other kids from that center have become sick and died?

Got ya.

Understood

@snow, those photos were topical. Why are they gone?

If the child became sick under the care of the People of the United States, then the people of the United States are responsible for the welfare of that child.

That is the right and moral thing to do.

No commentary with them.

You canā€™t just post a picture. Also no link to where they are from for proper credit. Not a new rule by a longshot.

The child was treated while under control of the United States. Control of care fell to the mother upon release.

The first one did have commentary with it. There was a question posed below it, which was a direct response the the question of how these things become politicized.

A LINK WITH NO CREDIT FOR A PICTURE? THAT HAS NEVER BEEN A THING.

The claim is that they were released while the child was sick.

If the child became sick under the care of the people of the United States, then the people of the United States are responsible for that childā€™s care until they are well.

That is the right and moral thing to do.

The people of the united states provided care in two hospitals after they were released.

If the illness was acquired under careā€¦ then the people of the Untied States are responsible.

This is now a legal issue. We will see how it plays out.

I have a guess that it will expose the US government to more lawsuits.

So if a child goes to school healthy and pics up a cold/flu/pnemonia at school, is the school district responsible to treat the child?

The US was only under obligation to treat the child as long as it was in their custody. When release, the monther had the responsibility for treatment.

Can a criminal sue if their crime leads to death?

A child in school and a child in custody are two very different things.

The child did not commit a crime.

But they are both in the governments care for a specified time.

Why didnā€™t the mother have the child hospitalized when it got worse during the six week?

I didnā€™t ask if the child committed a crime. In the US, if a person commits a crime and someone dies as a result, they can be charged even if it was unintentional.

Seeking asylum is not a criminal offense

Her presence in a detention center would indicate that her asylum claims were questionable.

What is your understanding of the process once someone requests asylum?

Intent to file does not turn an illegal entry into a legal entry.
