US Space Force Prepares to Defend the Forest Moon of Endor

Just Groot.

No assets in space? Looks up at billions of dollars in satellites and scratches head.

Well, its not like any of these guys will ever leave Earth and go up in space.

Amen to that.

One of my favorite lines (ad libbed I heard) from that series was when 7 of 9 was brought to the android doctor wearing that uniform and the doctor said “Your uniform is very informative.” :sunglasses:

Many said, that the Army was doing just fine without an Air Force too.

Fighting the last war is how a lot of countries lose wars.

I think the US Space Force will be the Trump administration’s best and longest-lasting legacy. I’m glad he ignored the shortsighted ridicule and did it.

Personally I see it as additional bureaucracy, but time will tell.

If you look at it as an additional government agency then yes. In the military it reduces the bureaucracy quite a bit. Now they have one chain of command. Before individuals depending on the branch of service they were in had a different chain of command. Also getting the Army, Navy and Air Force to agree on what the priorities to spend that money was very difficult.

Not to mention a whole lot of waste and overlap.

With each service being responsible for different parts of space defense you’re adding many billions to the DOD budget due to overlap not to mention all of the logistical nightmares involved in coordinating efforts between the services and the inter service friction that will always exist.

We have learned from History. The air was once just used for reconnaissance. But reconnaissance is a capability that your adversary wants to deny you. So he sends up airplanes to take out your reconnaissance. And then you send up defensive planes. The result is a contest for air superiority.

Now add the Billy Mitchells of the military who can see new capabilities in what aircraft can do. Add some time and you will get the USAF.

Trump is brilliant for seeing the need. Most people don’t know the war that goes on in space already. Its happening much like it happened for the Air Force.

I will add that the space environment is unlike the air, sea, or ground. The tactics are completely different, the hazards different, the technology and weapons are different. The careers of the men and women need to be different as well and that by itself is sufficient reason for a separate service.

Biden boldly going where Trump went before. Two rivals, united in space.

The OP Never heard of protecting satellites, I guess.

Agreed.

I think most of the original Space Force criticism was based on Trump hate and automatic opposition to anything he supported. Hopefully more Democrats will get on board now that Biden has given it his official seal of approval.

They should have just turned space over to the Navy instead of giving it to the Air Force.

We’d have had Helicarriers by now without the need for Nick Fury.

Nope.

Get the people who designed uniforms for Macross to design them.

Those giant tall collars were spiffy.

Throw in the bell bottoms from Star Blazers and I am in.
