He still has to agree to the interview, give answers, speak off the cuff or hit “submit”. All choices. Stupid, dim, ninny choices, but moments for him to exercise judgment. He decides to give vent, every time, instead.

Y’know before this ■■■■ can of a year, there were only two real October surprises in like the last half century plus. Now there’s been like five of them in the last two weeks.
