So Turkey gets the Kurds to move out of the land they were trying to make their own without having to fight, and we promise to drop the sanctions.

Erdogan seems like an upstanding guy. I’m sure the ceasefire and what follows will go incredibly well. At least Trump thinks so.

Like all of Trump’s claims, this one is also ridiculous. We agreed to give Turkey everything they want. The problem being, we’re not involved in the situation anymore. We have no influence over SDF anymore. Abandoning them and letting them get killed saw to that. We have no sway over Assad, Russia or Iran. They’re the brokers for SDF now. There’s a “ceasefire” for five days that SDF and Turkey may or may not keep to. But then what? SDF isn’t leaving that area. Turkey’s not leaving what they’ve already taken. And in five days they go at it again. Or sooner. It does give Assad time to move his forces into all of northeast Syria. Hurray?
And side note, the Russians are bragging that everywhere they send patrols(where the US used to do patrols) all the fighting stops between SDF and TFSA/Turkish forces. Bragging about it. It’s odd that Russians there stops fighting but American forces(according to Trump) couldn’t possibly stop the fighting. Even though they had stopped the fighting for years. Food for thought.

We promised to protect them from the Turks in return for them doing the heavy lifting regarding killing and capturing and imprisioning ISIS fighters in Syria.
Then we left them to be slaughtered by the Turks.
