Trump: “People that own their homes: we’re gonna keep them wealthy. We’re gonna keep those prices up. We’re not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn’t work very hard can buy a home.”

Awful policy. Unjustifiable.

I disagree…trick is to raise wages while leveling off home prices.

If home prices go up 2 percent…then make sure wages go up at least 3 percent.

This is a bubble and it is a dumb idea to try to keep it inflated.
It will fail and fail badly.

Yes I’m well aware of that…but how would president Gaius lower housing prices without ruining financial gains that so many people enjoy.

First off I would not lower them.
I would let the free market be free.

But “You won’t have the lottery” one time does not mean “it is now the government’s job to make sure you keep winning.”

  • Should the gov’t have guaranteed “Tulip investors must never lose their paper wealth even if they are too dumb to sell?”

  • Should the gov’t have guaranteed “Dot.com investors must never lose their paper wealth even if they are too dumb to sell?”

  • What about land in the metaverse or the '49ers?

It is impossible to keep bubbles inflated, and trying can only bring harm, not prosperity.

You live in NJ, correct? In NJ they have been building like crazy. In my area as well as many other places I pass when driving you see many high density residential developments going up. What you don’t see much of anymore are single family homes being built. What their doing now with new home ownership is massive townhome complexes. Now you may think that’s going to make things more affordable right, until you look at what their asking for these townhomes! My wife was telling me she saw one the other day in which these “luxury” townhomes were going for $700,000!

That’s a symptom of a bubble.

Even if there were not demographic issues (there are) the bubble would be unsustainable.

Hey…here’s an idea. Government…stay out of it. Do the job you were elected to do and enforce our laws. The prices of homes will take care of themselves like has happened since the beginning and it’s none of the government’s business.

Where I live its all “luxury condos” “luxury apartments” even “luxury sub divisions”. No mention of affordable housing.

What Trump said was crass and just reinforces his real motivation is keeping the status quo.

And yes the Dems did ■■■■ all as well towards helping create a system of opportunitues for affordable housing during Bidens administration.

There really shouldn’t be anything done. I understand spurring minority ownership 50 years ago. I understand helping vets with mortgages.

But to have a direct effect on home prices shouldn’t be a thing for the government

The more illegals we deport the more the price of houses and rent should come down.

I’ve heard Trump talking about helping first time buyers too.

Not sure how you can keep the prices high and help first time buyers both.

I suspect the first time buyers are going to be the ones who benefit.

Deporting illegals - the magic solution to all of Americas troubles.

How do we do that?

The free market is a myth…someone is always making the rules.

Since the beginning of what?

No magic to it.

Supply and demand is not magic,
well maybe if a person had ccrappy schools, and crappy parents they might think it is but not to the rest of us.

It is true that we don’t have anarchy.

You pointng out “at least one law or program that impacts the economy exists somewhere”
might mean something, but it does not mean “throw away the free market let the President set prices by diktat,.”
