During a campaign rally in Houston, TX last night, Trump declared himself to be a nationalist.
A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly, not caring about our country so much. And you know what? We can’t have that. You know, they have a word. It sort of became old-fashioned. It’s called a nationalist. And I say, really, we’re not supposed to use that word. You know what I am? I’m a nationalist, OK? I’m a nationalist.
So yeah. Your first reaction to this is probably, “Well, duh.” Trump is playing his base, making it clear to his followers that he cares about America first. Because Trump is a patriot! No wait. Trump is a nationalist. A patriot has pride in their country’s values, a nationalist promotes their country’s values and interests over all others. There’s a difference.
These are just words you say! Yeah, but words matter. Especially when leaders, world leaders, and presidents describe themselves as Nationalists. Here’s the thing. Trump should know better. But he doesn’t. And that’s the problem.
“Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first.” - Charles de Gaulle
Tell us something we didnt know already, meanwhile hard right figures are rising all over europe and even Brasil. How much anyone want to bet the next brutal dictator he will kiss up to is Bolsonaro?
Nah just disenfranchise huge swaths of the electorate, attack the free press except for fox news and alex jones, kidnap the children of migrants as a punitive effort, praise the slaughter of students at Tianaman square, praise violence against the press, etc. etc.
