Trump administration attempting to change asylum law via regulation

(emphasis added)

We do, indirectly. Every two years. (And you can make suggestions any time you want.)

You guys complained when Obama did this with dreamers…

Now you applaud…

Ah well strike that off the list of things the goo are hypocritical about

Well,I dont know about “you guys” but I think Obama was right about the dreamers. As far as i’m concerned, they should gain citizenship if the went to school in the US from 1st through 12th grade and graduated from High School.

That was another time that Congress refused to act so Obama made a policy. The increased media coverage will hopefully spur Congress on to act.

It’s not the job of potus…

Your right there, Trump is no better or worse then Obama in this regard. The only thing that’s different now are those praising this “effective leadership” and those griping about it.

Most of (possibly all for that matter) the people coming from Central America are not legitimate asylum cases as legally defined. The thing about asylum was that it was targeted for small specific minority groups in a country being specifically targeted. Here is how it is defined:

“Who Can Apply for Asylum? A person can qualify for asylum if he or she has: A reasonable fear; Of future persecution ; On account of; Race, religion, national origin, political opinion, or membership in a social group; Reasonable Fear. A person’s application for asylum must show that he or she has a “reasonable fear” of future persecution.”

Asylum Application: USA Law, Qualification & Requirements

Central Americans are very monolithic in terms of those five categories.

How do you figure?

A President changing immigration law by getting around Congress with a pen and a phone? Where have I heard that before?

We arent a democracy. Do you really think that would be a good idea.

Would you be cool if in any given election the plurality of citizens in this country had a ballot initiative that said get rid of guns for example? No a good road to go down.

So was this during the 1st 2 years of his admin when he had a favorable congress to act on such things or the other 6 years where the GOP house and senate didnt act on the issue?

Yet learned American immigration judges grant some people asylum from Central America based upon asylum criteria. Most are rejected due to false claims. Yet some do have credible fear.

So it’s not “possibly all”. It’s most.

Nope that’s a four decade old fact and anything they do do, won’t be enforced and what I’m saying can easily be e-verified.

So Trump is no better than Obama in that regard. Agreed.

It is the humane thing to do.

Otherwise they are exploited by many and appreciated by none.

:vertical_traffic_light:

At least Trump has made every possible overture to Congress for action.

This appears to be as Congress wants power to be directed.

Remember to vote in 2020.

:clap:t3:

Other than telling Congressional leadership that he would accept any deal they made on DACA, and then blowing up the bi-partisan deal they came back with, what overtures has Trump made to Congress? Please be specific.

Mike Pence standing in a concentration camp created by the Executive Branch stating "Congress has to act is not an overture to Congress.

Has Trump not invited Pelosi to his office on several occasions to discuss moving forward with legislation?

And half of those meetings have been staged Trump blowups to entertain his base.

Has Trump not kept 40% of the Executive Branch positions unfilled, crippling his ability to work on policy in favor of a nonstop stream of Twitter soundbites that get people excited pro and con but have no impact on policy.

Trump treats the Presidency as a reality show, and has no interest in the hard work of policy making or the coalition building that gets meaningful legislation through Congress.

What we really should be discussing here is who has run a better TV version of the Presidency – Martin Sheen or Donald Trump?

Dems have controlled the House for well over a year and what has been accomplished? What have they sent to the WH, that he’s vetoed?

You know your question is meaningless. Every bill that the House has passed has been blocked by Mitch McConnell in the Senate.

Republicans had both houses for two years and what did they do on immigration. Nothing. Because no Republican wants to solve the problem, they prefer having it as a something they can use to scare voters into voting Republican and something they use to put on phony shows of toughness.

When Obama had a Democratic Congress he addressed a major issue – health care. Trump and the Republicans could have used their situation to address immigration. The fact that they made no effort at all shows just how much they actually want to see this problem go away.
