That’s a lot of the problem. To force acceptance is to create revanchism.
To be fair, the regular trans folk aren’t like that. It’s the politicized kind that shout down any reasonable concerns. Like trans women in women’s sports or the bathroom issue.
To force acceptance is to get smack in the mouth. Betas don’t force alphas into anything but reactivity.

To me, it still boils down to the most addictive drug in our society.
Attention.
There are Trans people who are legitimately going through tough times trying to live a genuine life, and for the most part they do their own thing and try to fit in as best they can. I don’t think folks on either side of the aisle have a problem with them. If a M to F looks the part, they can use the stall in a Woman’s bathroom and no one would be the wiser.
But you are going to have folks who see all this attention and decide they want a piece of it. Like that 80 year old lady, who should be concerned about other things. Or parents who seem to crave having a trans child, or at least seem way too ready to start the kid off early in order to have a more attractive Trans child.
Then you have your assorted nuts who glom onto the Trans movement and decide they want some of that yummy attention for themselves. Bruce Jenner seems to fall into this category.
Now that the battle field is drawn, you can get attention either attacking Trans people or defending them. Seems to be the easy way to a megaphone. Threads like this serve as an example of that.
Overly simplistic and vitriolic takes on a problem that is nuanced and should be exceedingly rare.
I read an article on CNN today where Trans folks were complaining that the abortion debate didn’t include them. Because, you see, they weren’t getting enough attention for two minutes.
I don’t contribute much to the threads on this topic because I have simple takes on the subject and other than that, I don’t care to add more fuel to the fire. I just wish that the folks who genuinely have to deal with this problem could find a way to live their lives in some sort of grace and decency without both sides of the aisle scrabbling for attention and cheap points.

I generally agree with this take. Most Trans people that I know simply want to live life and be left alone… just like all of us do. There are some who do seek attention… and that is just part of the human experience and not related to them being trans.
But I do have to add one thing. There are those on the right who do not see there being a place for any sort of trans identity to exist at all. This is a more extremist view… but just like other extremist right wing views ( see also the Democrats are all Pedophiles) it is becoming more mainstreamed as we see more and more legislation that is limiting access for health care for trans people.

If only the “trans community” didn’t mostly look and act just like him.
I mean, I’m sure they don’t and all, but when dudes like that are out in front representing them all with the threat of violence against actual women and little males, who are we normal people to argue?

Regarding what Maher said about trans kids claiming it because it’s trendy, it is certainly easier to suddenly claim a trait rather than accomplish something through actual work.
