Were her parents planning to change her gender and decided not to? Was she asking her parents to change her gender and they held firm and she’s glad they did so?
or is it a remark that people take as a glib trivialization of a serious issue? I watched that Maher clip live on his show ( or on youtube depending on when I sub to hbo max…House of the Dragons is on the GoT redemption path) and it is staggering at how fast trans identification is climbing. Is it just more acceptance or is it promoted.

I’m glad B A’s parents didn’t change her gender, either. It would have been too confusing with over 80 genders to choose.

I’d say it’s a bit of both.
It is,really stupid, but it is being argued exactly that way. Heteronormative gender oppresses other genders as part of a white paternalistic dominated society. We must change the way people think of genders and change the meaning of normal in order to achieve equity.
