Today’s vote to continue an unconstitutional impeachment inquisition

You all know that if the political shoe was on the other foot, this would be happening against the Dems.

You guys and your conspiracy theories (Deep State, socialists/communist). It’s really an embarrassment.

Now with the public hearings, we will see the likes of the Freedom Crackers grandstanding to protect the Criminal-in-Chief.

How many members are there of the House of Representatives? You surely do not agree with the idea that all those members should be involved in the current inquiry?

It’s not Trump they’re going all in on so much as Trumpism, and a conviction that the American electorate prefers anti-intellectualism, populism, and vapid celebrity culture over substantive (and therefore boring) realpolitik.

It’s not a bad bet to make, although they have to be careful not to let the specific reek of Donald taint their future political careers. Fortunately for them the electorate is in general apathetic, suffers from memory loss, and is easily distracted by the latest piece of shiny.

This is a curious Constitutional interpretation, essentially requiring that the House act as a whole. There is no precedent for this and it is not a practical basis for the operations of a deliberative body: which has committees to represent the whole and different roles based on majorities and minorities within the organization.

He just withheld aid to Ukraine for the hell of it.

So…party line vote. Tells you the likely outcome of this in the Senate. Remember when Pelosi wasn’t going to have an impeachment that would ultimately fail? Too much political pressure from other Dems I guess.

You know, there are a lot of Conservatives who support Trump whom I hope will take a moment to reflect on the charges at hand instead of procedural sniping. Like our OP, johnwk2.

He seems very passionate about the Constitution and writes very detailed OPs.

Is there any chance you could look at this from the outside on the merits of the case? Or are you steadfast in support of the President no matter what?

Because from what I see, it is quite damning. I hope that some who oppose this measure will come around and at least agree that the charges have substance and should be addressed.

What could be wrong with a committee of 435 members?

If the Constitution is not on your side, pound the process. IF the facts are not on your side, pound the process. When the only thing you have left is the process, pound the process.

Too many new facts.

Arms for fake dirt. Obvious abuse of power. High crime.

Republicans simply will not care.

I will let the person who thought that was a good idea to explain that to you.

Fake impeachment to end in humiliating vote against Dems in Senate.

We have not seen anything yet beyond the transcript.

Talk about PRE-JUDGING.

:man_shrugging:t3:

If it goes to the Senate it will be a Republican, D Trump, who will face the Senate.

Oh, for sure, the President’s accomplices will vote to acquit, if it gets to a trial.

But we’ll get republicans on record saying it’s OK to use congressionally-approved military assistance as a cudgel to get fake dirt on one’s opponent.

This new presidential power will come in handy when next a Democrat occupies the office, no?

President Trump abused the power of the office of the presidency for personal gain by withholding taxpayer money already allocated as war aide as his personal leverege to have Ukraine investigate his domestic political opponent in an upcoming election. Republicans… conservatives, think about this for a second. No President should do this.

That’s offensive to actual babies who haven’t lived long enough to know better

I can only imagine what ridiculous charges they would have brought up against Hillary Clinton had she been elected. And you know they would have.

But despite what the Republicans keep shoveling out there, this is a legitimate proceeding. There is a reason for all this.

And guess what: What the Republicans have been barking for – open hearings – are coming. And yet, they’re still complaining. It’s all for show. It’s all for Fox News.

Except for a single amendment there’s very little in the Constitution they believe in
