Indeed…I did not expected them to live this long. Was hoping one will make it through. But without their mother those odds drop like a rock. Notice in that video how young male was taking his cues from his mother as they passed through.
As everyone has seen, that post is cross roads of north/south and east/west of multiple greenbelts and wildlife conservation and watershed preserve total of maybe 12 thousands acres between the 4 of them. And other stream is just across the road from entry of my driveway. Closest point of two salmon streams other then confluence. Thus the reason for all the traffic here…and it’s right out of my back window.
Hate to think what’s going to happen in 20 years…it will be all destroyed.
Prime hunting grounds with all the traffic. The lack of a mother showing them the ropes may limit their mobility, giving you more opportunities to view them in the future.
You know how salty a sob a bobcat is. If they make it through winter, I think you have cats for life. Correction, one of the males will probably have to move.
This is a prime hunting grounds specially for big cats, they have passed through here. Not many deer this year, only seen three different bucks but no trophies and about 8 or 9 does. But over the years there has been some real good wall hangers…but people will poaches them.
As for cats, they’re expanding there territory. Only one came out today and I believe it was Stalker. I was lucky enough to catch her because the camera didn’t…she is one slick cat. I’m not worried about her, she survivor. I do worry that other female like the mother on video, a mature cat with cubs will run her off.
As for the two males…yeah, only one will rule here if they don’t get run off. That male with her mother is bigger ATM but that’s going to change by the time matting season comes around. I would think these bobs will have incentive to fight since this area is all they know.
But it has been interesting witnessing them grow and develop. I caught Gimp on camera chasing something but not sure what it was or if he was successful.
I also notice Stellar Jay knocked off a chicken thigh few days ago and cat wouldn’t touch it since it wasn’t on the post. So I put it back on and called him and about three or four minutes later he came out and taken it. I thought that was odd.
Also they won’t eat hearts and liver either if it’s in a bowl. Only off that post.
They didn’t come out today, only one came out yesterday and day before two of them came out and taken those turkey wings which they didn’t take on Thanks given day.
So they’re not taking food everyday.
But Redtail hawk attempted to steal a piece before I ran him off. So I pulled their food which was on the post about hour and half. While I was doing that hawk was in tree above me bitching. Then he came back afterwards and sat on the post.
It seems this chapter of three little Bobcats has come to end.
Couple days ago I seen a mature cat disappeared into the brush thinking it was the mother of two little bobs with kits out in front in the brush. This morning front camera picked up mature cat, I didn’t have time to snap off a picture of him but it was male cat as he disappeared into the brush where that bear marked the tree. Now I’m thinking it was him that I seen two days ago. That would be two times in three days I’ve seen him.
I haven’t seen those kits in 4 days now, they haven’t came out to eat. I’m thinking he either killed em of more likely has driven them off.
I’ll still keep a camera on that post…someday in near future I’m thinking Gimp when he become matured will come back and show his affection to that post as we all seen him do…if and when that happen, I do not believe anyone or anything will drive him off ever again.
Those kits are on there own, Ive done all I could to save them and prepare for there future in best way I knew how… Stalker was already there, I only seen her about 3 maybe 4 times in last month.
Clumsy, I’m not sure what will happen to him. I’ve done all I can do for him.
But I have to admit, they sure as hell clean this place up from mice and rats.
Glad to see that they are still surviving. That skittishness may just be the maturation of their survival instincts. It’s a very dangerous world for all critters in the wild.
Yeah, I haven’t seen hide or hair of them for 5 days, hell I only seen Stalker about 3 times in last month and seen her or got her on camera 3 times just today. That’s a record for her.
I think that male mature cat was/is there greatest threat to date, greater threat than night of 5 fangs/coyotes etc. Hell I fed them couple times when those bears were around…even one came out within minutes after a bear passed through. But this is different.
Does tell me these cats a resilient…and they’re not allowing themselves to be pushed out even if it means holing up for 5 days.
And here I thought I might not have to buy cat food anymore.
Straight up, I’m not sure how you do it, Conan. I would have taken those kittens in on the first day. What you’re doing is certainly better for them in the long run. Hats off to you for not being soft.
It was a tough decision, but what I’m I going to do with three Bobs? That and I wouldn’t be able to travel unless I take them. That and it’s illegal to have em in my state. If they catch me they no doubt would put em down.
Now having said that knowing what I know now…Clumsy would be the one since he’s slowest learner. I’m somewhat afraid he might be welfare dependent. Stalker is there, just need assistants every now and then. Gimp I always see him out hunting. His pattern has change over the last month…I see him more and more out in the open which is a good sign IMO. Even Stalker keeps pretty much in the brush.
Either way it’s been interesting to watch them grow and I hope they all become wild strong and healthy wild cats.
One think for sure…if they ever do sink there teeth into a live chicken a light bulb is going to go off.
I have my video set for 10 seconds, not sure why this only recorded 7 seconds. Anyway this cat just shown impressive display of speed, agile and determination.
What you see here Gimp chasing a gray squirrel up the tree, what you couldn’t see because video cut out is he chased up way up the tree…nearly catching the squirrel. If you look closely his head started to pop around the corner of tree before video cuts out.
If fact it was so impressive you will notice a quail just couple of ft to left of post going what the hell just happen.
I"m proud of Gimp…considering he was almost eaten just a few months ago.
