A punk rock singer jumping off the stage to clock someone who flipped him off for 2 songs from the front row is a thing that happens. It’s not evidence of how much more measured and reasonable “the right” are. You’re working backwards from your own bias. There are plenty of incidents of people on your “team” punching people from the other team. Heck your president encouraged it at a rally as it was happening.

So in 1964, someone like conservative Democrat George Wallace could say, “I am having nothing to do with this so-called civil rights bill. The liberal left-wingers have passed it. Now let them employ some pinknik social engineers in Washington, D.C., to figure out what to do with it.” Then, over a half a century later, they can say: It was really the conservatives who fought for civil rights against the liberals! It’s funny: Martin Luther King published his work in The Progressive, for some reason, and not The National Review. Can’t imagine why.
