The trump recession may be here

Right? How about those CDs at 2.5%? Nothing says securing your future better than loaning what crumbs you have left to the robber barons down at Wells Fargo. Hey, no worries, it’s all insured. Until it isn’t because the Federal government is too broke to pay for it.

I’ve noticed that neither you nor OhKnow35 ever respond to bad news like this with a discussion of the actual news.

You always make flip remarks as if this bad news is either “fake” or that you just don’t care.

The whole point of a discussion board is to discuss the issues - to refute via facts when something isn’t true.

Can you refute the facts in the OP? The conclusions? Please do so.

yes. a string of ineffective attempts and posturing to make it look like something was accomplished.

makes me glad we have a president who actually is making progress

Sounds like Lou Dobbs.

What happened to Dobbs? I’ve never been a fan but he seems to have gone off the deep end.

“Addressing it” by actually making things worse. He’s a genius!

How in the world are you measuring progress?

Like so many others he is addressing an audience of one… and got a lot of praise in that one audience member’s tweets.

Look for markets to rally today.

It appears China has backed off its HK demands.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam announced the withdrawal of the extradition bill that has sparked the nearly three-month old protests, a move that triggered gains for stocks across the globe.

The bill would have allowed Hong Kong residents to be sent to mainland China for trials. It sparked massive protests that have become increasingly violent and caused the airport to shut down earlier this month.

This may not help the catcalls for recession…we shall see…

:chart_with_upwards_trend:

while the market may rally big today due to this it will have no effect on recession predictions.
things liek this will have more of an effcet on any potential recession

Being coddled by the CEC - They tell the Loyalists that the economy is strong, like bull. The CEC tells them that Trump’s tariffs will be good for the US, and that liberals are evil that are rooting for a recession. The CEC tells them that the Dow Jones is a true mark of how well the economy is doing. The CEC spouts how low unemployment numbers are.

They got their stuff straight enough to oust incumbents house members in Iowa, Michigan and pennsy.
Also in Arizona, they won an open seat in the senate in 2018 along with house members.

Methinks you are underestimating the Democrats resolve in ousting the President in tossup states.

Feelings. Oh feeling.

Any rational fact of the upcoming slowdown is dismissed.

People aren’t “catcalling” for recession. Discussing recession indicators is not hoping and praying for a recession. Why is this so hard for some people to get?

I disagree Allan. Right before the 2018 midterms the GOP was still trying to repeal preexisting condition coverage and working to remove young adults from their parent health insurance. Voting in the House virtually up to the last minute. The Democrats ran on this issue, which was front and center in voters minds. That same thing will not happen again in 2020.

I’d be very cautious in assuming the Democrats can out battle the Republicans. Politics is war, and the GOP will fight dirty. Doubly so with Trump leading the charge. The Democrats are busy promoting plenty of things the general populace doesn’t care about or want. Trying to be too high brow when they need guerrilla warfare.

Bill Maher rooting for a recession is only one person. And he’s from the class of liberals a recession wouldn’t hurt. Hardly representative of all.

But that’s irrelevant when one’s primary aim is to land punches…whether the target exists or not.

Let them cling to scraps. Remember Loyalist thinking:

One liberal’s opinion = ALL liberals opinions
One Republican’s opinion = ONLY THEIR opinion and no one else’s

bill maher is a very influential voice in liberal politics. He is frequently quoted, parroted and promoted by regular posters on this very board.

A few weeks ago he publicly turned a member of trump’s administration against him.

Can you point to a few threads where Bill Maher was quoted approvingly in the past month to back up your claim?

R win the battle of 2016

D win the battle of 2018

? Win the battle of 2020.

It’s an open question.

You take one side. I take the other.

What do you think the issue of the election is in battleground states?

Of course the wild card is the economy. If it’s going great. That’s good news for trump.

If it’s going bad, that’s bad for trump.

Just ask George HW Bush or John McCain. Both ran during a recession and were trounced by the electorate.

Allan

he is all that? wow, had no idea.
