No it isn’t. That’s what the whole article is about.

More than 44% of Americans pay no federal income tax
The Tax Policy Center estimates how many people paid no federal individual income taxes in 2018.

Does everyone in these high tax systems pay taxes to spread the pain out over a large number of citizens, or like the U.S., do they exempt almost half of their population from paying taxes to the state?
Here's to feeling good all the time. :

What they are happy with is probably not sustainable.
Isn’t it ? Yes, they may need to start spending more per capita i.e. higher taxes.
It still won’t cost them nearly as much as it’s currently costing us (for a system that obviously doesn’t cover everyone and doesn’t have anywhere near 88% approval rating)

I suspect they have a progressive tax system like us
Finland has a progressive oppressive income tax scheme. It’s expected to be over 50% next year. The bottom payers pay 25%.

44% of our citizens don’t pay squat in federal taxes. In fact, some low wage earners not only do not pay, but the government gives them other axpayer’s money via EIC.

I get so ■■■■■■■ tired of people comparing the U.S., a country of more than three hundred million people, representing every race, ethnicity and culture on the planet, with lilly-white european countries.

Well… we are the wealthiest nation to ever exist in the history of the world.
So you are correct there… in a lot of ways there is no comparison.
The fact remains… we have the money. We already spend more per capita than all other countries with worse results.
Like comparing Texas to Homogenous Hampshire

The whole tax argument is brain dead stupid. Finland pays 40% of what we do on health care expenditures. Their higher taxes have nothing to do with health care.

Generally speaking, when looking at the populations of developed nations, as they increase their per capita health care expenditures decrease. The US is an outlier.

From what I read its birth rates and difficult access to rural healthcare. That will be a problem regardless of single payer or private insurance.
Good observations. To add to this you can say that no system can ever assure the same access and quality of care to all. This is one of the reasons healthcare can never be a genuine right assured by government.
This objection is like “see what natural rights you have when someone witha big club comes along”.

They probably have a variety of other taxes that we don’t have as well.

Our bottom 47 percent that don’t pay any income taxes would squeal over that 25 percent.
They probably wouldn’t think paying 25 percent of their income for health care much of a bargain either.

The bottom payers here get “returns” so that’s something lol.

They do pay FICA taxes.
And now today Finland’s Prime Minister resigned and their Government collapsed due to high cost of healthcare.
PM Juha Sipilä resigns.

That was back in March. Their “high cost of healthcare” is 40% of what we pay. I wish we could get our current government to resign over $4100 per capita health care costs.
In Finland, their government resigns over health care costs of $4100 per capita.
In the USA, mainstream politicians defend a for-profit, largely private system that amounts to almost $11,000 per capita.
