Democrats dispute the JTC’s initial analysis — thus arguing the Inflation Reduction Act does not increase taxes — by claiming the initial analysis does not take into consideration offsetting benefits.

There’s no bigger tax cut or inflation bulwark than energy security. This bill is a small step towards decoupling the American homes from the machinations of foreigners on the global market.

How?

More money for renewables. And money for EVs with more american parts. That’s all stuff which will insulate us from foreigners later, since there’s no global market for exporting american sunlight or wind at high prices.

Good enough, at least it’s on the right continent, physically and politically.

Look someone doesn’t know who makes all the solar panels and wind turbines.

I agree it is a half step in the right direction. There was no reason not to bring it home.

…but it’s the wrong direction IMO. The damage being done to our environment in making these EVs, the rapid evolving of this technology and how manufacturers then abandon the old technology, not supporting it with parts…will leave these vehicles as junk and never do enough good, to overcome the damage.

Best time to fix that was the Obama years. Second best time is now.

It’s certainly not ideal. Hopefully Canada or Mexico will volunteer to fall on that sword and destroy their environment for our benefit.

It is absolutely ill thought out and will not accomplish what is being said will be the positive end result.

We had energy security and were energy independent under President Trump. Biden destroyed that and the Democrats applaud.

Is there anyone left in Mexico to work for cheap in these new manufacturing facilities?
